When should I buy what? Best path to upgrades?

Hi, I'm interested in what to buy when. E.g. is it better to buy a better Gateway or upgrade the processor in your current one. Perhaps contributors to this post can recommend the best upgrade path. For myself, I realized too late that upgrading to Log_Deleter 4 pretty early on was a good idea, after I got caught even after deleting logs. Turned out my Log_Deleter version 1 could be undeleted...and I didn't know that...so here goes..what would you buy and in what order would you buy it?

------------------

Early on, some people go for log-deleter v4 before even buying the trace tracker. As far as Gateways go, I don't think about upgrading them until I fill my current one with top-of-the-line hardware and still need speed.
As far as software goes, scrounge for the HUD connection analyzer soon, monitor bypass if funds are ample, proxy bypass, then decypher, voice analyzer, then firewall bypass. Money's tight enough early on, but this is about the order in which things are required for hacks.

If you're not indisposed to bank robbing, then do simply this. First, get the trace tracker and password breaker (I usually go for level 2 tracker) at the very start, along with a level 1 log deleter. As soon as you have the funds (very soon) buy the level 4 log deleter. Work standard missions until you get a Turbo CPU, a level 5 Proxy Disable (not bypass), a level 5 Firewall, a level 3 decypher, and a voice analyser. The total cost of this is not very much at all (under 40k I think). Once you have that, hack into a bank and find an account with a lot of money in it - it doesn't usually take more than about 7 accounts to find one with around a million credits. Transfer that - and poof - you've got enough cash to buy everything in the game.

Some people don't do that because they feel it takes the challenge out of the game, but hey - it uses entirely legitimate means.

Or you can simply take one of the "investigate bank whatever" missions where you're supposed to track a certain transaction. You just need the Proxy Disable 5.0, Log Deleter 4.0 and Password Cracker. You can get the Trace Tracker, but it isn't necessary if you have a list of like 30 or 40 servers to bounce off of as you will have ample time). You set up an account at the bank where the money was transfered to, disconnect. Bounce through all servers beginning with InterNIC until you get to the bank (saving the connection, of course), go into Manage Existing Account, enter your target's account number and run the password cracker, and disconnect. Go to InterNIC, hack the admin, and delete the logs. Load the connection, disable the proxy, enter the target account, transfer money to the account in the same bank, deleting the transaction logs from both accounts. Disconnect, delete logs from InterNIC. Reconnect to bank, disable proxy, transfer money to the Uplink International Bank account, delete logs, disconnect, connect to InterNIC, delete logs. Bounce through all servers to the Uplink International account, disable the proxy, delete the logs, and wait a day to make sure you didn't screw up.

It seems complicated, but the overhead isn't as high.

This is unneccessarily complicated. It's much easier to simply create a dummy account in the bank you're hacking into, then transfer the stolen funds to that.
