hi, on my most recent mission, I was hacking into the Global Criminal Database, when I saw that with the time I had left, there was no way I could complete the hack and erase the logs...so, I disconnected even before the password breaker had finished, and then went immediately to InterNIC and deleted my logs for the last 30 days or so...yet then I receive a message saying that a large corporation had reported me for accessing etc. etc. ...and everything is confiscated and I have to start again. I don't get it. On all jobs before this, I have successfully deleted the admiin logs before I disconnected, - this was the only job I did not complete...yet I got caught (even with the supposedly safe wireless 15750c Gateway).
What's going on, and how can I avoid this in future? Is deleting the logs at InterNIC what got me booted?
Thanks

Well...if you used a subpar version, they could simply have undeleted the logs...with version 4.0 it's completely undectectable. And are you sure you bounced through InterNIC? Because if you didn't, that log was just sitting out on some computer out there. Deleting the logs at InterNIC shouldn't be a problem, InterNIC doesn't trace, either passively or actively.
------------------ The box said Windows 95 or greater...so why doesn't it work on a Mac?
The subpar deleter could be the problem...I'm still using version 1 even when doing level 12/11 missions...

That's it. Upgrade and your problems should go away.

Are you deleting all the logs at InterNIC? Don't do that. It's bad. Delete all but the latest one. That one says that you logged into InterNIC. After you log out, it leaves a log-out log, which looks suspicious without a log-in log.

He also said he deleted the admin logs. Don't do that, it wastes time. Do what esw_dragoon sadi: always delete them at InterNIC. Then you shouldn't have any problems.

In my first few users, I always deleted all my logs and never encountered a problem - well, I had a number of problems, but none were due to the logs. I understand that in real life, such a situation would really look suspicious, but I doubt that it is a real problem within the game. I even completed one of the storylines before I stopped deleting everything - I was paranoid about it being a problem & I hadn't started backing up my users at that point. I always leave the connection log now - habit....

Another note - this may have been due to the fact that on every mission I completed, I would have deleted the PREVIOUS missions disconnection log with the current missions logs.
Looking back on it, it seems rather anal now, doesn't it...
In any case, it takes less time to just delete the admin log-in and bounce logs than deleting everything.
Also, if we wanted to be really realistic, wouldn't it look suspicious if your server got hacked, and when you trace all the way back to InterNIC there's no log of any bounce through InterNIC, but somebody logged in and out again within a minute or two of the hack? Every time?

Well, yes. And if an Uplink-like game ever went multiplayer (as suggested in the Introversion-system egg), any 'trace-the-other-hacker' mission would be kinda easy--everyone would look at interNIC for anything. Then again, they'd never have any logs.
Of course, if someone were to print out a log as soon as it was entered in the first place. . . -<evil, evil, evil grin>-
