Hi, I'm having trouble, and it's partly because a)I'm not good at the game yet, and also
b)because the game is confusing.
Regarding part A, I sometimes get into troublem in the middle of a mission because the Copy File, or Delete File program gets "sticky" and stays with my cursor, even when I try and drop it on a file. This costs me time that I don't really have, so I keep getting caught because I don't have time to delete the log entry. Also, in the last one, I didn't see a menu on the hacked computer saying Log Files, so I did't know what I should delete. Now I have a couple of fines against me, and companies won't hire me because they want someone with less of a criminal record. There are only two missions available, and they refuse to give them to me because of this criminal record. How do I qualify for new missions. Do new ones appear where the employers are less concerned about your record?
Regarding , I don't know why I can't get offered new missions. Surely someone is desperate enough?
Okay - thanks in advance for your answers - if all this is in the tutorial, please tell me, and I'll stop bothering people on this board. Thanks.

I got this problem, too. What I did was changing the pref and disable all eyes candy, as they suck the processor power, making it less receptive to the mouse input. Also, quit any running programs too, and check if you have enough RAM. About you being caught, you can delete the logs at previous bounces, too. I suggest you to start the first bounce at Internic, as they don't trace you when you hack them. Delete the 'Connection routed to...' logs.

You'll have to pay the fines or start a new account. About the criminal record, you'll have to clear it at the criminal database. About the missions, you'll have to wait for a mission which will be available. Remember the 'accelerate time' button !

Some reasons would be: Bad criminal record. Too low Uplink rating (it's the encrypted missions). The guy don't want you to accept the mission (You can't contact the person).

Play the tutorial! It give all the basic stuff about Uplink. THE most important part of the beginning of the game.

A couple of things to help you out in the future, or in the present: When you're 'carrying' a program around, you can drop it in place with an Option-click, I believe. I find it useful for carting a voice analyzer to the non-default location or for getting several deletes or copies in preparation for a LAN attack.
You don't really have to delete the log files in your target computer--just make sure that the log-chain can't be tracked back to you eventually. I'll let you figure out some good chain-breaker systems, even though such places are mentioned all over the board.
I'd imagine that your agent is still pretty new, so I'd suggest you simply start a new one. However, if you wish to try the, erm, more "responsible" route, you could clear your own criminal record at the Global Criminal Database (the link can be found at InterNIC, I think, or some missions provide it), but you'll need to have a DeCypher and proxy or firewall disabler at least.
(I'm not too flashy with the UBB codes, so I hope this looks presentable.) (edit--Darn! I'm not working this quote-stuff properly.) ------------------ Getting on everybody's nerves since 1999.
