Okay...man...I broke through the firewall and the mission is telling me to delete all the files on a server. Except...when I get there, there are no files. Help!

Did you try replying to the mission email - you may get credit (& $$$) for a mission you didn't do!?
Otherwise, don't worry about bypassing or disabling the firewall. If you have to delete ALL the files on a server, the quickest way to complete this task is through the console. Go to the admin section and get into the console. Move your cursor to the text box at the bottom and enter:
cd usr delete
If you want to destroy the system as well, then follow the above commands with:
cd sys delete shutdown
If your mission was to delete only one file (one of the very first missions) and it's not there, I'm stumped. Maybe you are not hacking into the right server...

Yeah, Uplink appreciates a hacker that can do missions without doing anything :p.
This situation in not that uncommon. There are NPC hackers that cause mischief too, and occasionally you luck out.

I was also wondering...you know the chat program you can buy? The hackers you talk to are NPCs, right? And also: how do you get a voiceprint to break a voiceprint lock?
The irc client built in is real. You can talk to other people (if anyone is there) on Ambrosia's #uplink channel, or any other that you want on any other irc servers. IV has their own irc server as well, but I don't know the specifics.
I'm one of the ops on Ambrosia's #uplink channel, and (if I'm there) I can help people out with the game if they need it, or just chat about anything.
As to your other question, you need to go to the public access server for the targeted company and get the admin's phone number. Then just dial it in and start up your voice analyzer. Once it has a recording and it is ready, leave it open and play it back when the main target server asks for voice ID.

Use the IP Lookup software. Type it in, press go, and if you entered it correctly, voila, you have your link!
