I ran into this problem as well.
Most phone numbers in Uplink are like (54356)643821. If you put that into IP Lookup you get the link. However the phone numbers I've found on a lan have been in the format 12345-123456. If you try the number in IP lookup with the brackets around it (12345)123456, it won't return a match, but if you enter it exactly as you find it 12345-123456, bingo.

Athagon, i had the same problem. Only thing i could do was use Lan Force on the Locks that i could not hack open.
that was on protovision lan

I have a LAN hacking question also. I'm on the mission where I have to hack into ARC's LAN and you know, do some stuff. Well, I have LAN_Spoof, LAN_Scan and LAN_Probe. I probed everything and scanned it. And I get a lot of Wireless transmitters and receivers. The only way to progress further into the LAN system is by using these, but I don't know how to find out the frequency of any of the other transmitters/receivers. Any way to do this?

Hack into Terminals. Some Terminals will have the frequencies you need.

I believe that I am encountering the same problem. I have version 3.0 if all the LAN junk except the force, and I try hacking into any LAN, I come tangled into the following chain of frustration: First, I run the bypassers. Then I attempt to probe the only visible system, the router, which appears to be the only thing in the system, which, according to the probe, has nothing connected to it, until I do a scan. This reveals a number of other systems, all of which are completely isolated from each other, having no connection with the router whatsoever. Still no effect when probing the router. I have attempted to connect to any of the terminals, with no effect whatsoever. Ahem Help!

It's a bug. I encountered this, too. Exit your game, and reload it (not Uplink, only the agent file). This will fix the problem. Until it come back.

By the way, VERY IMPORTANT! do not connect directly to a modem, ever that is how i got caught if u connect directly to a modemn an active trace will begin if u disconnect there will still be a passive trace in a short time remember, never connect directly to a modem, no matter what, always have a jump in between

I THOUGHT it was! I guess it was from using the Uplink User Backup so many times. Thanks!

I usually never connect directly to any system, except Uplink Internal machine, but i never have been traced when connecting to a LAN through the modem. Are you sure you installed each bypass (especially the monitor v5) before cracking any password inside the LAN ?

Yeah, it look like backing up (by hand or not) the files too often bug the game. The workaround is easy, but when you have 50 bounces to set each time the bug appear ...
I am having a problem with LANs that I haven't seen posted yet. I am trying my first LAN mission (Crystal Industries) and I had minimal problems dealing with the locks, but now when I log onto the server and begin to delete files the admin kicks me off before I can finish a directory and the next time I log on I have to start deleting from scratch. Anyone? Anyone?
Thxs
------------------ I'm not here anymore, but I'm still not quite all there.
The admin will log on if you connect to the main server, even if you have bypassers. One strange thing about the console is that if deleting files, they aren't actually deleted until the task is completed. So usually you'll have to delete the files yourself. :frown: Yes, it stinks all the way to Hawaii.
