Is anyone here still trying to crack this? I know there's an old topic about this, but the only relevant information in it is that it deals with OTP (One Time Pad) encryption, and that it uses information from the world.dat file, which can be turned into a valid MP3 file by using RedshirtX. I've searched all over the Introversion boards, but the stuff that could be helpful was time deleted, and the other things I found are just vague "hints" that don't help at all.

I think I understand what is needed to be done, or at least how to go about figuring it out, but I lack the software and/or time to go ahead and try it.
That said, I have books one and three decrypted, and I laugh at the pathetic fools who do not :p.

Yeah... so, could you, maybe, help me out a bit and tell me what that is? I have NO ideas... so are you possibly willing to share yours?
The implementation is the issue, i essentially gave up after my otp gave out on me after working to get the source data, from world.dat, once... anyway, I think I outline the necessary steps fairly thoroughly in that other thread, read close, especially toward the end..

That's true, but I don't have an OTP program or the Developer Tools, so that would make it a bit difficult. But perhaps I could try using the Windows OTP program in Virtual PC...
I have heard that it can be done with a hex editor with the ability to XOR, though I'm still not certain what that means, and I haven't found a suitable editor for Mac.
Basically the world.dat file is used as the OTP key somehow. And something in there needs to be deredshirted maybe, although I forget now which exactly. It also would appear that world.dat needs to be split up into different keys perhaps. I've also heard rumors that some of the files in book 2 are used as OTP as well.

yes, you turn world.dat into mp3 format, then it is used as the decryptive pad. however, it isn't just the start of the file is the pad for everything, they start somewhere and go progressively up, using a different part of world.dat each time. you can use the decoded image of book 2 (pages 22-23, image 12, I believe) to create a file that is the part of the pad used to make that encoded image, so from there you should be able to determine the start point of the first image and decrypt from there. This is all detailed in the other thread, read it! My current idea is to (after stripping the first 16 bytes of the rimg files, of course) is the chunk them all in one long file and somehow sequentially test to see if the pad is valid for each starting byte. Maybe when I don't have so much chemistry...
Like I said, I don't have the time or software to do all that...

Great... joethebarber just sent me the compiled otp program... but I can't seem to get it to work. I went to the directory it was in, typed in ./otp, and it lists the commands. I type them in, but nothing seems to happen.
Any help here...? Or should I just dig up the old thread again..
(edit) I did dig up the old thread again... I used Ricia's help to make it executable, but whenever I try to decrypt something, it says this: "Error opening OTP.DAT - Does it exist?"

yes indeed, you sould read up on the one time pad standard... there's a source file, an encryption file, and an encrypted file. you need the encryption file, world.dat, and it needs to be renamed otp.dat and in the same directory.. not to mention chopped up in different sizes, but that's not quite yet.
