Console vs. UNIX

As i played uplink, i began to wonder if os x had a console, asked my dad and he said there was terminal. I began to teach myself UNIX, and i began to realise that the console in uplink had fakey commands compared to the actual UNIX language. For example:

cd and cd are the same either way
delete is not a real command. the real way is rm -r *
shutdown is a command, but worded differently: sudo shutdown -h now
run is not a command, however open is

Also it should be noted that there should be an ls command(for list).

also, scp would have to be used to copy a file between the gateway and the server you are hacking.

if you want to know all then there macs are made so the DOS.PROMPT is hidden deep within the comp itself thats why hackers hack PC cuz well IT SUX! hackers will be payed 5X their normal if they can crash a mac. VERY hard, believe me, im the type who legally hacks(yes thats right) their are multiple forms of hacking, the only legal forms is to:
hack your own program or
hack someone elses with their permission
. hacking is the art of disassembling, understanding, and reassembling data.
i began studying hacking a year ago and have gained more interest in it. today i began looking at the school's DOS.PROMPT and searched for info, then it hit me,
dir
gave me ALL directories to view so i wanted to learn...

here:

cd sys doesnt do what the game says it does
cd log isnt a directory
cd usr neither
exit works

Well, it's a good search, but for my part, i always thought that these Uplink command was more like MS Dos than Unix. Knowing that Uplink is first a PC game.

the languages have to be different because you cant ship out loads of games that have real hacking commands and stuff because 1. it gives ppl bad ideas and 2. hacking is illegal(well unauthorized hacking)

said very well, hacking yourself isnt illegal so there the
sys command is used fore copying data to a CD(disk)
to delete its del or deltree and to permanately erase i think is sumtin like erase.i dunno

Yes but once again this is MS Dos, Not UNIX and although I am not sure 100% but the console in uplink says "UNIX Commands" I don't care that they are wrong really because most gammers know windows/dos better and the game was made first for windows and it is only a game. I don't care if the windows using idoits don't know unix commands all I care is that I know them.

oh no i know nothing of unix this is all dos.prompt stuff.
yeah its based off of dos not unix. so yeah sorry if there was a misunderstanding there. lets see:
dir
dir /p (shows dir on seperate pages)
del delete
deltree delete all on dir (i think)
ping (increase/decreases ping)
power (conserves usage of power on comp)
call (call bounce sorta)
fasthelp
help

ok? learn it like it use it. oh does anyone know how to reach the mac console thing? its deep within the system and is extremely hard to access, but does anyone know where to find it or how? id like to practice harmless commands and not use the school's. hehehe

The game is not realistic on many levels. It's still a good game, so start playing it, instead of worrying about what you're actually typing.

Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal

It's not exactly hidden or hard to access.

You can also acsess the command line by holding command-s at startup(mac). This will boot into single-user mode.

when you get to the real command line, type this and see what happens:

sudo rm -rp /

Surprise! Surprise!

No dont do that. Unless you want to delete you hardrive, which is fun for practice. Thats how to use the rm command. Lookup man rm for more info:

type:

man rm

and that, as aforementioned, will give you help.
