I have a G4 733 (OS X)which can run Uplink fine but if I use my iMac 450 Uplink becomes unbearably slow (OS 9/X). Can this be sorted out or what?
------------------ SSS
well, first, the 733 is faster than the 450.
Second, i have an iBook G3 500 Mhz, and if i quit all applications (including Classic), Uplink run perfectly fine. my setup: run in 800x600, 32 bits color depth, full screen (no other graphic options enabled), music enabled.

I have found that running any other app will cause Uplink to be picky when linking jumps and any clicking. Dont run anything else, it WILL have an effect on performance Even on my couple month old 800 iMac running even iTunes or Monica (a download manager) causes speed issues. I think its just strange programing or the such.

For some reason, it seem that Uplink is run at last by the processors. All other quieries are made before it. Why ? i dunno. But it would explain the slowness of it.
Not only is your 733 twice as fast as your 450, its system bus is faster. Why is it surprising that it will run slower on the iMac?
By the way, i have a 500 MHz G3 Beige MT and it runs perfectly.

No I'm just saying that the minimum requirements are a 300MHz machine and the game runs way too slow especially in the later missions for it to be any good on an machine around that speed. But those requirements tricked me into thinking it would be ok on the imac.
