OK - I just started playing this game today and need a bit of help.
I've been through about 7 users already. Each time I get up to the intermediate level, the screen goes black then reports that some company has reported me and I'm being disavowed.
How can this happen? I delete the logs of my actions on every mission on the final computer that I connect to. One of the first things I always purchase is the Log Deleter v4.0
I've never had a trace completed all the way either. I use the v4 of the Trace Tracker as well - it's the other first thing I get.
It always seems to happen at the same level within the game and it's getting very frustrating!
------------------
The better security is forgetting the last computer's log, and delete only those in your first connection. And working fast with a lot of bounces. It look like you have been attacking some big corporations which have hired a hacker to track you down. And he succeed.

I bounce to every available computer before I go to the last one.
Are you saying to leave the logs on the last computer (the one that I'm attacking) and only wipe the logs on the first one I connect to in the bounce?

Yup. You'll be able to take more time on your hack. Delete all the "routed to ..." logs in the first bounce, and it should be enough for anything. Just remember that the banks have a very fast trace, and can find you within minutes.
Following that logic, it would seem that the InterNIC computer would be the best computer to connect to first, as it's logs are easily wiped.
True?
Correct !
Take everything you want after this one. I usually use 50 bounces (all the public servers) after it.
50 servers? I've never seen that many yet. I do grab all the links from each computer i hack, but don't have 50!
Which brings up another question - why do some servers have different icons from others?
What about contacting me on AIM ? It isn't very liked to use the board like a chat room. For the server's icon, it's for telling you if you have an account in the server, and if the account is the admin's account.
How about this - instead of AIM or iChat, maybe you have a pointer to a manual other than the built-in training thingy.
I got the DL version, so it only came with a readme...
there's (url="http://"http://www.guide.modlink.net/")http://www.guide.modlink.net/(/url) , and a second one, wich i don't remember.
If you need more time, its always a good idea to make dummy accounts at all the banks, then when you bounce through them the traces take a lot longer. But yes, always use interNIC or the test machine as your first bounce. Which is better is an ongoing debate, I'm of the internic camp because you dont have to bounce your connection, you do for the test machine, but there you dont have to type your password out. So it seems that those who can't type prefer the test machine.
(edit: oh, and make sure you leave one "connection established" log and nothing else when you nuke the logs, to match with the one that's created when you disconnect- it's an implied trail that I think AI hackers will pick up on.)
(edit2: reading that again, seems you haven't noticed internic's other function, as a link database, just click browse/search and then the plus by links- i recommend using filter and adding everything that contains "bank" "international" and "global"}

Got all that stuff figured out now. But - here's a new one for me: I get jobs asking to confirm a bank balance or a loan balance. I figured out the hack for the banks (getting the recording by calling the guys phone number), but after I check the balance, I reply to the contractor and they send me an email back saying that they don't believe that the balance is correct.
What am I missing???

You have to type the balance exactly in the body of your reply.
