Bugs: 3 Missions, Sound

Hi, Great game. I've been enjoying the demo immensely, but a few frustrating bugs make me not want to pay for the game --- since I can't proceed in the story because of them. And if this is the case for the DEMO, I can't imagine that the full version is any more bug-free... ($25 is a price I'd gladly pay though.)

Two of the missions seem to have bugs, and one other mission seems to have a serious design oversight.

One was to give someone a Degree in Engineering. Even though I found the right person, entered the text exactly as it appeared in the e-mail, in the right field, and pressed commit, I continued getting response e-mails saying I hadn't completed the mission.

Most recently I accepted a mission to delete all the files on the Peer to Peer Internal Services Server. I deleted every single file on the File Server, and I still get e-mails saying "We have not received word that the damage has been done." Maybe this isn't a bug, but I waited at least a week of game-time (for them to "receive word"), and still I'm not getting paid... The original contract specified only the Internal Services computer, not the rest of the machines owned by Peer to Peer (e.g., their mainframe).

Another mission was to crack the Government Criminal Database and give some other hacker a criminal record. Ok, fine. But a while later I checked the "News" in the game, and it said that the hacker had just been arrested. So I figured, no need to give him a criminal record anymore, right? I thought this was SMART gameplay. Seems this was not rewarded, because when I clicked "Abandon" for the mission (since there was no longer any point to it), I got a nasty e-mail back saying that I wouldn't get called on in the future, yada yada yada.

Better checking for whether-you've-completed-a-mission needs to be implemented before I'll buy this game.

Lastly, when you opt turn the music off, it also turns all the sound off.

Are you absolutley sure you typed everything correctly? Because I know I've been about ready to rip my hair out, only to discover that I didn't look one line down and discover the rest of the degree I was supposed to enter. I know you said that you tried, but just keep trying and hopefully it will work 🙂

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need to go to the console and enter the following commands:
cd usr
delete
cd sys
delete
cd log
delete
The last two lines are optional, but if you have time you should enter them.

I've never had this happen before, but if anything, you shouldn't have abandoned the mission. Maybe if you had just replied you could have gotten paid. I know this has happened before on other missions where you had to delete a file and it was already gone for whatever reason, so my best guess was that you should have just replied. If the reply e-mail said you hadn't changed anything, then you should have gone to the GDC and changed something.

This has been noted. Also, there is a topic about bug reporting that is currently active. Next time please post there if you think you have discovered a bug.

If you're giving someone a degree, you have to type '(degree name), Class 1'. This is not case sensitive.

Correct. You just need to type "shutdown" after deleting the logs.

Abandoning a mission does simply that: abandons the mission. Any data that you changed for the mission will not revert to what it originally was. Also, why would you opt to abandon a mission instead of recieving a cool 5000 credits?

For the 'Delete Files' mission, don't you also have to wait for the 'disaster' to pop up on the news before you reply?

I believe that you have to wait when you destroy both Central Mainframes docs and internal services docs.

P.S. Dont be stubborn by not buying the game because you encountered "bug like" conditions that turned out not at all bug like conditions, you should buy the full version.

There are some very tricky, finicky, and somewhat contradictory aspects of the game but, once you learn it's ways the registered version is definately worth it. Many of us thought things like the ones you mentioned were bugs and it turned out they weren't. For example, I thought it was very slow and clumsy until I bought a new gateway and CPU's. Also, if your mission is just to delete the files, do go to the console but, you only have to type
cd usr
delete

Also, it's possible that the mission came from ARC who rarely responds.

You still have to shut down the system and make sure it can't start up again. Hence:
cd sys
delete
shutdown

Why? If your mission is only to delete the files. Anyway, it works for me. The rest is for "destruction of computer"

------------------

Some missions only want the files gone, so deleting the sys and shutting down only wastes time.

I've never gotten a mission to just destroy the files; all the ones I get want me to destroy the system as well, so I guess that would be right.
