I just started my guy, have an intermediate level, but my neurmancer rating is "notorious"...I know how to lower it, but how do I raise it?

Not exactly sure, but when I killed a bunch of servers for missions, I ended up as single-minded, which is good (apparently)
------------------
How do I kill a server?
With a great deal of effort.
You will need:- HUD Connection Analyser Proxy Bypass Monitor Bypass Firewall Bypass Voice Analyser Password Breaker Decyper Trace Tracker v4.0 Log Deleter v4.0 Luck
First off, when you have been given your target mission, you find their public access server and acquire the administrators voice number. Prepare your run to it like any other hack and BEFORE you connect, run voice analyser. Connect and when the voce analyser stops saying recording, disconnect. DO NOT CLOSE VOICE ANALYSER!
Now you have the admins voice, using the public access server as your final bounce, hack the server. Proceed to break in and open the console. then type the following:-
cd usr delete (wait until it confirms file delete) cd sys delete (wait until it confirms file delete) *cd log *delete (wait until it confirms file delete) shutdown
*these steps are optional dependant on your time until the trace completes
then log off, delete your logs at InterNIC and the test machine, spin time on a while and check the news on the Uplink Internal Services Machine.
Good Luck!
Actually, you don't need to wait for it to stop doing something before you enter the next commands. You can just type it all in and wait for it to finish.

When you do something good for the hacker community, (like destroy a corporate database, your rating goes up.) If you do something like trace a hacker or change an acedemic record, it goes down. It is alot easier to get a rating to go down than it is to go up.

Actually you don't need to delete the files in usr unless the mission specifys it.

Have you tested this? Does it really work?

Another question on Neuromancer rating--I know that with your regular rating, you get more advanced missions when it gets higher. How does the Neuromancer rating affect missions and such? Does it just make it so companies wont give you "half now"?

It has no effect what so ever on anything in the game. It is just there as an external rating to show what type of hacker you are. Never in all the times I've played has it effected anything in the game.

I heard somewhere on the PC Uplink boards, that some companites will only hire you if you have a good Neuromancer rating.
You rating is lowered also if you do the falsify a security document and the trace money transfers.
Unfortunatly most of the middle missions are this sort of thing, so it limits your choices.

I've had missions where I cannot contact or take the mission because "The employer has specifically asked not to work with you". Those aren't the right words, but yeah. I think its because I did the Arunmor mission (well actually, I screwed with their minds.I installed Revelation on Arunmor, then sent them a copy of it. I didn't get credit for both missions, but ARC never got mad at me and I don't think Arunmor is. :D.

No, they wont hire you because you are the person they are tracing.

Oh, well that's poopy. Especially since I've only made two bank transfers the entire game, and one of them was legal. THey must be after my 1,200,000 credit bank robbery... or would they also trace when I move that from one account to my uplink account, legally?

I beleive whenever a large sum of money is transferred they trace it.
