Aha! There's your problem. Uplink doesn't allow you to hack any .dat or .usr files if you're running unregistered. Sorry.

thanks for that info about the Unregistered people not being able to hack. I still want to know if there is a way to switch from Uplink into Game Cheater. Although I think there isn't because alot of other hot keys don't work too.

Just run the game in a window when you use GameCheater. (Main Screen/Options/Video Options/Uncheck 'fullscreen')

AFAIK, the game doesn't know when you hack a .usr file... it would have to checksum for that (which it does for the .dat files) and store it in the file; chances are they don't care that much. All I guess the game looks for is if you have something unregistered users shouldn't have (from .usr hacking) and simply not load.

Actually, I have hacked both data.dat and .usr files myself...
Althought I might have used a technique that bypasses the checksum...
