Lurid, these "13 and 14" year olds aren't 'hackers' in any sense of the word. Sinclair44 is the closest thing in here to a hacker. If you want to be a 'hacker', learn to cheat on the game without using someone elses program. Learn what every 1 and 0 in that .usr file does and post that. And don't let some moderator threaten you. Let them lock all the damn posts.

I knew that day would come, Im 20... they are 14 and have devised programs that I bareky know how to open let alone allocate to do my bidding... I just didn't know that day would come so damn fast Just dont let it get to your heads kids, the new breed is waiting right behind you.
So anyway back to Uplink. Has anyone ever come across a phenominon where if you create a new bank account on one of the random banks (in this case in was Sync Bank), sometimes they give you loans? You can increase those loans to be put into your bank account and later transfered to your main account with uplink... Im not insinuating but just curious to see if anyone stumbled upon that -- I made a quick 6 grand doing that.
Also, if you are so desperate to cheat, download a Gateway of your choosing (from like (url="http://"http://www.modlink.com")www.modlink.com(/url) or something), go into the .txt file and change the price of it to whatever you (hint: what if they gave YOU money to take their Gateway??) Im probably going to be shunned for that blatently obvious cheat method, but sometimes you gotta hack without reprocutions. Happy Hacking boys and girls.

I feel old. I'm 28. But the game rocks....and I have no clue why you guys feel the need to cheat. Hacking a bank can be done so easly with a char with about 1 hours worth of experience. Much easier then editing hex files. Just my opinion I guess. I've hacked several banks by now and have too much money for my own good.

Ill try not to let it get to me, anyway about this whole cheating thing, I think in this case, Hex editing is a thrill because of the bizzare paradime it presents: Hacking into a game, for your personal benefit, that is about hacking into things for your... personal benefit... in this case cheating seems almost appropriate - ok ok ok granted cheating is NEVER appropriate but lets face it with Uplink its not like there is a series of button pushes (up, down, up, down, left, right, A, B, A, B, START anyone??) - if you want to cheat you have to actualy KNOW something, or be slick about it - so if anything its all part of the game!!! ...please dont ostrisize me for that... I just find it entertaining

Cheating kinda takes the point out of the game, considering the point of hacking it to get money...so why hack if you have money. And besides, I prefer the adrenaline rush I get from hearing the trace tracker rapidly beeping as they get close, I acctually almost broke a sweat once! Imagine that...

Yes, getting money the hard way is fun the first time, but not the second, third, etc. if you want to replay anything or just do the other side of the story. Even though I do suggest doing both sides normally first.
Why don't you guys just get up there in levels, start taking Donation jobs so you have access to account numbers and then just steel the credits in game. I just got 1.4 million out of 2 accounts. Easy as day.

AFTER YOU'VE DONE IT THAT WAY (and only then), this is more fun. And I wanted to keep a good Neuromancer rating.

Hacking banks is almost as effective at getting your rating up as it is getting your account up, I've skipped ratings from hacking banks

Ok just a little thing. First I tried hacking wiht a Pandoras Box type method. I have a program called GameCheater. It basically does the same thing. I found a little problem. I can't figure out the hot key to get out of the game! It's usually tab something but I've tried basically every combo I can think of (I have force quitted by accident many times.) If anybody knows the hotkey please tell me. Another note, I tried the Hex hack. Didn't work. I don't know why. I tried it four times. A lot of the time it wouldnt even log into my gateway, other times it said I still had the same amoutn of money. All the money in my account is a loan. Does this have something to do with it. Or is there something really stupid going on....
Shameless Justification: I accidently bought stuff with an account that has no money in it. I paid off my 500 dollar debt and it still says I haven't. I want to hack a bank but I don't have a fast enough system. And it's only a game. In which I don't have a main storyline to. I'm running un-registered in fact.
