I'm having a problem on LAN missions, but it's not until after I get into the target computer. Once I get in there and start logging in as admin, the active trace starts. I start in on my work, but after about 30 seconds the remote host disconnects me every time. The active trace doesn't get more than half done. My current mission is to destroy the machine and all data, but when I get cut off it's still deleting the files in /usr, and when I go back again the files are there again, so I make no progress. So how do I prevent the disconnect? I've tried varying the composition of my bounces, but it didn't help...

Yeah the admin logs on and starts to trace you himself/herself. So as soon as they find you they disconnect you. Most LAN missions require going in a couple times before can complete them. After the first time though, all the lan locks should already be unlocked so it's just a matter of navigating to the mainframe.
I finally finished the mission, but I had to go in several times and delete files one at a time instead of in the console. It seems that the console doesn't really delete them unless it completely finishes going through the directory.
Hey. i'm also having a problem im trying to get into ARC's lan and i simply have no idea how i have top of the line everything, gateway, hardware and software. I am lost
thanks teknokrat
I'm stuck on this mission too. I've unlocked all the locks, but i still can't get onto the mainframe.
I'm having a problem with LANs too... I'm trying to hack into the Micro Systems LAN. I try to access the main admin CPU, but it won't let me. I have all the LAN software and have tried it all, but nothing works. How do I access it to see the logs?

Okay, so it's not my fault that I get disconnected after about 30 seconds (whew!). Okay, but one thing bothers me. What is the point of the LAN Spoof program? It seems not to make any difference in any of the hacking. Even connecting through the modem entry instead of the router seems not to make a difference. Hrmm.

i just finished the mission concerning ARC's LAN, so I'll try to help.
first off, here is mrxak's uplink guide (Edited by mrxak: Please note it was not made by me) (url="http://"http://www.modlink.net/guides.php")http://www.modlink.net/guides.php(/url)
Working through the LAN is like simultaneously running through a maze and solving a puzzle. When you get on to hack into a Public Access Network first pull up your hud and bypassers, then open the LAN screen. You'll see a box, in the middle of the black square, on the right hand screen it will say Router (I think).
1. run LAN scanner 2. run LAN probe on and every box the scanner picks up 3. never run the LAN force, it alerts the administrator and you'll be kicked off very quickly. 4. follow the lines which the probe picks up and press connect to get to the various types of servers. - a HUB just gives you more routes - an Authentication server is the something you need to hack into inorder to unlock keys. When you select a key a yellow line will show up around the Authenticater that controls that key. - a Terminal contains modem numbers and frequencies. Before you connect to one, target it with a LAN spoof. Always write the numbers down exactly as they appear. Usually you will have to disconnect at somepoint and reenter the LAN through this new number. Sometimes the Terminals don't have any info at all. They're just a tease. - a Frequency transmitter works like a modem, sort of. You'll need to enter whatever frequency number you found in the terminals. - any more?
5. Don't forget to reprobe when you unlock Authenticators and gain entrance to Terminals.
6. And, yes at your final destination, the Main server on the LAN map, the administrator will start coming after you immediately. So, be prepared with your voice annalyzer etc. before hand. When I'm going to be copying a lot, I usually pull down 5 or 6 copiers (and stack them on top of each other) before hand. Also, use your defrag first, to make plenty of room.
Good luck!!

Thanks. The problem was I wasn't spoofing <i>before</i> I accessed the terminals. Thanks.
are the sample comanies safe to hack without fear of capture?
No, I once tought that the Sample companies were 4 practice so i started goofing off on the LAN server, tha admin got me and I got disvowed.

Yup, same here, don't do anything on those servers unless you delete your logs. I was trying to figure out how to hack LAN's on it, because it was the only one InterNic brought up
