(Spoilers)
Okay. I was working for ARC, and I successfully hacked the Darwin Research LAN and stole all 90Gq of the digital life data. As usual, I deleted my logs at InterNIC shortly after the hack, and thought that everything was going just fine. I fast-forwarded to get my next ARC mission sooner... and got the dreaded BSoD. No, not Blue Screen of Death, the Black Screen of Disavowment (X doesn't crash. :-P).
Anyway, I've gotten extremely good at deleting my logs quickly, and I use the lv4 log deleter and everything. So, what gives? I know that it was Darwin that did me in, because it said so on my score screen. Luckily I backed up my agent file before I started playing this evening, so all I have to do is re-hack the Darwin LAN, but I don't get it. It's not like I don't know how to cover my trails.
The only thing I can think of is that part way through my job, the sysadmin disconnected me, and disconnected me again when I tried to reconnect (after deleting logs). The trace wasn't up, though, and after waiting a minute and setting up a new bounce path, I was able to complete the job with no problem. I mean, I've hacked banks and LANs before, and haven't ever gotten caught in either of them. So why this, now?

Athagon,
this happened to me as well. See (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/cgi-bin/ubb/postdisplay.cgi?forum=Forum69&topic;=000184")this(/url) thread. I have hacked banks, transfered money, hacked lans - I am an Expert ratin now. A few days back, I hacked Walker Tech. mainframe and 5 hours later I got BSoD as you call it. No idea why, I deleted my logs at InterNIC AND at Uplink Test Server every time I tried to reconnect. After I found out, I went back and deleted ALL LOGS on InterNIC and UTS. Those are my 2 first jumps en route and this was 2 hours before the BSoD came - which I figured out meant that by this time, the passive trace couldn't have gotten past these two points. (And yes - I left in the last connection opened line.) They got me again...
I didn't want to recover back before those 5 hours, so I uploaded my software to a file server and nuked my top-of-the-line gateway, which instantly granted me Neuromancer rating of Single-minded (before I was unstrustworthy). I lost about 300k$ in restoring my previous 1600MHz HW configuration, but I recovered quickly by hacking another bank account.
