Well, they're called Gateways. Be sure to call them that, since we're not dealing with actual computers, here. Either way, though - real world or Uplink world - they'd be called Gateways.

The best one you can get in the unregistered version is the 26,000 credit one. I don't remember what it's called, but it costs 26,000.

All I know is that it can have 2 CPUs, 64 gigaquads of memory, one security system, and a 4 GQ|s modem. Just find the last one in that list that doesn't say "Only registered users may buy this."

Please, don't use the phrase "n e body" around here. I couldn't figure out what you were asking for a minute there.

Anyway, to answer your question, we need to straighten some things out. The Gateway is the computer that the Uplink corporation has reserved for your use. Whenever you are playing, you are connected to the Gateway via the Internet. If you are caught hacking something, Uplink destroys your Gateway and denies that you ever existed. That way, your personal computer can't be traced by the authorities and you can't be arrested. As SB was trying to explain, you can upgrade your Gateway at the Uplink Internal Services Machine in the game. The Uplink Internal Services Machine also has a place where you can buy software and hardware upgrades for your Gateway and you can get new missions from there, too. I don't know of any other machines that have programs that you can use on your Gateway.

Inventor of the "Analytical Engine", the first computer.

If you hack into the uplink internal services, you will find one very useful program.
