Mascot Guide Progress Log

Alright, I've decided to start a progress log for a MASCOT guide. I'm making the guide for the Help Viewer bundled with Mac OS 8.5 and later. It is therefore in HTML format. The guide is available (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/pcheese/ferazel/mascotguide.sit")here(/url).
I'm doing this because we really need a guide. I want everyone to post any info they've discovered about MASCOT here, so I can add it. Also, feel free to use any information from this guide in your own guides (although having more than one guide is probably useless, unless you convert it to DOCMaker format or something of the sort).
Later on, I'll upload the guide as HTML pages so it can be viewed online without downloading it.

The following sections should be complete now:
Advanced Use of Sprites:
-About this section
-Boulders
-Stalactites
-Teleporters
Introduction:
-Introduction
-Ben Spees' ReadMe
Level Lookup Table:
-About
-Lookup Table
Tools:
-About this section
-Open Ferazel's Wand
-Open ResEdit

Make sure you include this stuff:

• 1 Tile is 32 pixels,
• 1 Second is 30 Ticks,
• Item IDs (1290-3225 and 1-26),
• Level flags and info fields,
• Scenery tinting numbers.

I'm not sure if you included any of that or not. 🙂

Just looking at the 'Stalactites' section of your guide, I noticed an error... You said that they weren't used in the original levels, but three can be found in level #2 from the original level set. 🙂

Some more stuff:

• If in info(1) of a Rock Barrier anything other than a '0' is entered it is shorter by about one tile.

From the 'Rock Chutes' section:
info field (1): sprite ID of secondary button that turns rock chute on, (please explain)

That's like in the level #4 of the original levels two buttons can make the rock chute drop a rock, which are both at different heights, so the player blasts a hole in the ground then goes below the ground and presses the button again, then a rock is dropped. 🙂
You'll probably understand better if you look for yourself! 😄
• Could you make a more HTML-friendly document? Help Viewer is included with OS X, but it's a classic application so copy and paste is a quick way to hang the computer and there's th horrible redrawing problem! :frown:

From the 'Characters' section:
info field (2): When using Hooded Figure, turns it left instead of right?

I think you mean when you enter a '1' in info(2) it flips the Hooded Figure, but you got it a wrong; it flips it right instead of left. 😄 I tested with the other factory sprites, but not with (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/mdwgmalc/")my own World(/url)'s sprites, and it didn't work for the other factory spites.
• You haven't got a lot for the info fields of enemy pipes.* I can't remember what the info fields do, but I'll try to find out fo you. 🙂
• In your 'Geysers' section, you said that info(0) is the height and to use '0' for default, but it may be useful to not that this is in pixels. (I think).
• What, exactly, is your definition of a 'goodie'? I didn't know about that '1' in info(0). 🙂
• In your 'Platforms' chapter, in the 'Tips and Tricks' section, you used Teleporter tips and tricks... That may confuse some readers... 😉
• You haven't got a capital letter for the first letter of the green titles of the sections: Spikes, Spinblocks, Swords or Treasure Chests. 😄
• You haven't got very much information about spinblocks.*

That's all. 🙂

  • = This is probably intentional, but I'm reporting it anyway, just in case...

edit: Just some clarifications.

Thanks Malc 🙂
I'm busy studying for exams right now, so I don't expect to do any major work on the MASCOT Guide within the next week. After all, MASCOTJuggler 3 is a priority right now, and I'm very close to finishing it up. Maybe I'll release it right after exams.

Oh, and that thing about the rock was wierd. Has andrew decided to add advertisements within his boards?

Music! 😄

-Here I can tell beginners some music files not used in the game:

The Labyrenth II ID: 11 (I think this music ID is really cool.) I'll explain it like this: 🆒 😄 🙂 😉 😛 NOTE: Double check the level info table after clicking OK when choosing one of these files, because one time I chose "Beginnings of the Earth ID, it ended up as ID 320!

Ice Caverns 3 music ID: 7
Miles of Lava music ID: 14
Beginnings of The Earth music ID: 20
Relm of the Mandirakki music ID: ? :frown: (I like it a lot, but I don't know it's ID.)
Ferazel Overture music ID: Ferazel Overture cannot be used in gameplay because it is an MPEG, not a MOVIE. It is my favorite file, and i'll force the ID out of anyone who knows it if it's the last thing I do!!!

I don't feel like being clamorous, so, as I always do ending my submissions:
Nah nah nah nah nah! 😛
