Yes, I know, I've posted a lot of questions recently.
Anyway, I was just on the Uplink news server, waiting for a mention of my recent server destruction so that I could reply to my mission, when a news bulletin was posted about a virus outbreak, and a flashing red dot appeared on my world map. I'm pretty sure this is the Revolutions (Revelations?) virus from what I've heard, so my question is, is there anything I can do about this, or is it only a matter of time before I get a game over because the virus has destroyed the internet? I've put in a lot of hours into this agent, and, although I have a slightly older pre-virus backup of my agent, I don't think I could get into the ARC system in time to do anything. And, I reeeeeeally don't want to start over from scratch.

Near as I can figure that's the beginning of the storyline, you should get some addition news reports soon.

if you have just one dot... its the start (probably) and you missed the storyline. if this dot spreads, its the end. however, i've found that if you DIDNT do the storyline, the game doesnt end (the 'good' guys win), but it could be random.
i suggest you get used to the mission, get as far as poss, then start a new user, and go for the storyline

That is the climax of the plot. If you are not in the plot (ie working for either Arunmor or ARC) there is little you can do. Although I don't think the virus will end your game. I have always played right through the plot (not working for either side) and have never had a problem.

Really? The agent "suicide"/Uplink warning/autosend email part of the storyline happened a long time ago for me. I never bothered to try to log into ARC until recently, though, and the dead agent's password didn't work. :

The active storyline starts with that sent email. You are supposed to TRY that log/pass on the ARC Mainframe, though it will never work. The act of trying it will spur ARC to send you an email giving you a task. Replying to that will give you your own version of Revelation 1.0 which you can use to take down a server.
At your point, the story has been going for a while if Revelation is already being deployed. Depending on the circumstances, it could either be a test-run or the real thing; however, if it is the real thing, there are splits too. Check the Uplink Internal Services machine on the status of Revelation vs Faith. If Revelation is v. 5.0 that means it spreads to 2 new computers every 2 minutes (Yowza!). If it is a lower version, it will go slower than that. If Faith is a higher version, the "good guys" will win.
That agent is probably not over with (the important part is to not let your gateway be infected), so you can probably continue playing a "free/open ended" game. However, I too recommend getting used to the missions then restarting to get the plot

i luv revelation! especially when you run it locally! i luv that effect... there WAS a prog that simulated it...
