The world no longer need be conquered by armed warriors brandishing guns. Connected to the world's matrix of computer networks via a fragile electronic tether, those with the knowledge and skill to manipulate critical computer systems are the new warriors, armed with weapons of their own.
Welcome to the world of the cyber-hacking game Uplink.
An enigma in itself, Uplink is akin to a more cerebral incarnation of Ambrosia's popular Escape Velocity series of games, with missions that interweave a threaded plot which is unveiled with each conquest. Only this time, you have only your intellect, hacking skills, and the computer systems you've compromised to aid you.

Ok, I have a question. I am financially challenged at the moment, and while I have registered Nova, EVO, EV and Harry the Handsome Executive, I don't have the cash to register Uplink. In order to gain as much play out of Uplink without paying until I get some more dough, does ASW's version have any less restrictions than Introversion's demo?
TY.

Well, there's only one way to find out!
Hang on.

Yes and no. While I am not aware of the specific limits, I can tell you that Uplink will not simply quit when you reach one of the limits like the introversion Demo does.

I've been playing it since this morning when I got it, and so far, this version is much less restricted. From what I can tell, at the Confident level, is where the missions tend to stop. Very few missions show up now, and I normally have to fast-forward a bit to get another.

I must say that my introversion one didn't quit when I reached the limit.
On another note: I just registered, going to put the app to the test, can't wait to check it out.

Ahem. Note the location. This is not America, where everyone apparently knows each other and y'all turn up on doorways - in friendly ol' England, if you went door to door you'd get shot, impaled and stuck on a flag-pole. ... Or so I hear.
The ambrosia demo let you play until a certain level and then wouldn't give you higher rated missions....but it didn't quit on you - which is nice.
I registered the game this morning and played as much as I can today - so far it's very cool. I'm now on missions that seem to take about half hour to do the right way. Very cool.

O.O
I was definately not expecting an "and" in that sentence.

I was expecting the list to be longer.
As for me, I'm one who likes to take the full 30 days to try it all out before I buy it. Then I know exactly what I'm missing by not paying for it, and what I can expect to get for my money. From there, I judge whether it's worth it or not.
From what I've seen so far, though, it seems to be so.

They are, up to a point. You can get a firearms license if you have no serious convictions, are eligible to vote, and are not too insane(?). It helps to know a friendly JP(magistrate) or barrister, or to be a Mason.
The range of firearms is regulated, and you will have to join a gun club to be able to have anything other than a shotgun or other smooth bore weapon(32 pounder cannon?).
But, otherwise, yes, you can go and blast away at undesirable intruders in your castle grounds... but you will probably end up in prison, unlike any real intruder that intends to rob and kill you.
Normally, we just hide behind the curtains and pretend they are not there, or verbally abuse them.
Strange, very strange.

You have strange ideas about America. Over here, such acts would probably happen more frequently. The point I was trying to make was, get a job. 25 bucks is not that much money.
