This has been nagging at me lately.
The connections with the bold line around their box is the mission objective server, correct? Well, then, what are the connections with the dotted lines around their box?

No, the solid line indicates a system which you have root (admin) access on. The dotted line indicates a system on which you have user level access on (ie a bank account). These servers will improve your trace time (the solid line the most, the dashed line a bit less) that is why they are displayed that way.

Another point about the Map - DO NOT save a connection 'chain of bounces' and then remove one of the links unless you want your map to go really screwy. It looks quite interesting but is impossible to actually use. (I'm not sure if this happens on the Mac version but it certainly happens on the PC version!)

Yeah, this is in the mac version too. Which is why the fact that a system is automatically hidden after you complete a mission at that system is annoying.

You shouldn't really be saving your bounce route through mission servers anyway.

The mission servers are removed from the map becuase (i'm pretty sure) if you go back through them, they detect you and give you a slap on the knuckles. Or worse.

The only bounce route worth saving is the one back to your first bounce, so you can delete logs. This would be the test server or internic.

Why save a one server connection its just as fast to select the server manually.
They remove the mission servers (as far as I know) to reduce clutter on the map. I have never had a problem using mission servers as points in a bounce after the mission is over (you just have to remember to manually make them visable again). (I'm a happy guy what can I say).

I meant the route to that one server.
But if you're using InterNIC there is no need to bounce off other systems to delete your logs as there is no trace, a direct link works fine. Although I generally throw in one server in between just to add a little "realism".

The Number of servers that you bounce off of does effect how long a passive trace takes. If you were to hack a bank with just InterNIC, the passive trace would be complete before you logged off. It also effects how long active traces take.
IMO, Bad idea.

No I was talking about deleting the InterNIC logs. As InterNIC has no trace you do not need to bounce off a bunch of servers to hack InterNIC and delete your logs there. Yes if you just bounce of InterNIC for any hacks you will generally not last too long.
yes, the internic never ever traces anything. the mission servers are removed for clutter reasons- there's nothing wrong with bouncing back through them after completing missions, its really quite useful to have some servers that you retain root access to, for those speedy hacks. (if you have root access and use it to bounce they will usually change the username and password after a couple times)

Pah, say that after you do some big lan hacks. its good to save those ones because its easy to accidentally disconnect yourself when you just want to log off of a terminal machine. That, and so you don't have to click each one again once you have to switch to a modem for the lan connection. just click internic in the list, haha.
