How do I copy files?

I copy the file, but i can't save it to my memory banks.

Why not?

It simply says "select slot" and no matter which one i click, it just sits there and laughs.

This took me a little while to figure out. You have to click on the title bar of the file copier to move it over to where the memory banks are. You will do the same thing to move the log deleter too. Very annoying, when you consider the fact that the mouse arrow has to be directly on the title bar, and at a full stop. Even though I figured it out, it still takes me two or three clicks to be able to move it sometimes.
Cool, I just realized that this is the first help topic we've had here.

You just have to be relaxed. Even though the tracer may be beeping at the speed of light, you usually still have a little time. Try to get enough money to buy a Trace_Tracker V.4, and you can see the amount of seconds left before you are traced. You can usually wait until about 2 seconds left to disconnect.

Just another tip. Get a lot of bookmarks from the InterNIC server. Then bounce your connection through 20-30 of them. That'll give you enough time to steal or delete any files you want, delete your access logs, and then be able to screw around with the server for as long as you want.

And when your password cracker's half done, you get a notice that you've "Attained the highest rank"...in the middle of the mission. Drat.

Actually, I don't think that has anything to do with the database in question, but what you did earlier. If you get yourself a couple of standard missions from the mission bbs, and abandon those, your uplink rating will go back down to either "novice" or "beginner", and you can keep playing.

Of course, as soon as you get bumped up to "confident" again, you risk being kicked out of the demo... :frown:

Another way to lengthen the time you get is to go through servers which you have an admin account on (indicated by a solid square around the server on the world map, the dashed one means you have a non-admin account access).

I find if you go through lots of servers where you have admin access, you get more time.

Remember, you lose those admin accounts as soon as your trace gets to 50%, or if enough time has passed. Regular (dashed-box) accounts do increase the time slightly as well, but admin accounts work the best.

I was under the impression that admin accounts were lost when you're traced through that machine - which would make first linking through all the machines where you have admin access on, and then a lot of other machines a good tactic... Oh, well.

Actually I was talking about the admin account that you're currently logged into, but I guess that didn't come out right. Yeah, I think you're right about the others you bounce through.

Because admin accounts are lost so easily (and also change their passwords periodically) I generally create an account at every bank and bounce through those. It gives you a great deal of time and the accounts are permanent.

Thats a good idea. One of the features that would be really nice is if you could purchase a remote relay drone that would be set up somewhere else in the world and you could bounce through it with a time delay of an admin account. Of course this would be really expensive.

I really hope the dev cd comes out for the mac, and that ASW finds some way to make registration necessary so that they can release the CD soon, as opposed to waiting a year loke IV did for the PC verison.

From what I have heard there are no plans for a Mac DevCD yet, atleast from Introversion. Contraband apparently controls the source so there would be a bit of a hastle there. Although I am sure Contraband and Ambrosia could be talked into it eventually.

Unless they implemented some sort of required library that forces you to have bought the full game. Basically, if the shareware registration code was part of the library, and it had to be included it would work.
