Has, anybody else managed to get into the database in time without having to dissconnect at the last minute I have managed to get in but never have enough time to disable the proxy. Has anybody else managed to do this?

It sounds to me like you need some more time to complete your work - why don't you log into the InterNIC and get the links from there, and maybe even get a processor upgrade? Prioritizing the proxy disabler helps, too.
If you get yourself admin access to computers between yourself and the target that will make the trace take more time. Just make sure to link to those machines first, and not last. That way the trace will not make you lose admin access.

don't worry bout it, I figured it out. I just linked through the Global Criminal Database, that gave me enough time and I also linked through some servers I had Admin access to.
Banks and internal services machines are the two best kinds you should get links to early on, as well as all the government servers.

Although be careful when hacking the banks. It's annoying when you're hard-earned ( ;)) stolen cash is rewarded with the end of the demo :D.

I didn't say to hack them all, I just said to get them into your link list.
Try to use a proxy_bypass. You have to get all the equipment, but it's worth it. The _disables are almost worthless unless you have tons of time to waste or a really fast computer.

Very true. In the full game, a proxy_bypass v5.0 is one of the most useful tools you can have.
heh, I guess I took the cheap way...
I hacked it using the Password decripter thing, getting the password for readwrite, then I disconnected, cleared the records in a few other servers I linked through, then reconected.. hey, look. login with the readwrite/pass and they arnt tracing me, till I activate my proxy disable....
it worked... Now if the dam Demo didnt have such a cutoff I could have more fun, I was getting the hang of it.. though how does the IRC client work?

The IRC client works just like any basic IRC client. Just change the server to irc.ambrosia.net, the channel to #uplink, and connect.
As for the cut-off, the shareware version should still let you play after reaching the limits, but you won't get any advanced missions or storyline missions. Besides, you'll register as soon as you can, right?

Actually, I'd imagine that most people here would complain more about the fact that you can't register and continue, rather than the cutoff.

I am thinking the same thing. I am so mad that I can't get the whole game. I want to keep playing it but they still don't have the whole version out yet. It makes me mad. Do you think they will have before the 26th or do you think it will be that same day?
No doubt that will be the way the ASW release works, but this is the IV demo, which means the only alternative is the hard copy. When it comes out you can pick and choose, but now... Are you in a position to complain about which version got leaked?

That's the way the IV demo works, not the ASW shareware. You are not forced to start a new account at the cut-off, and as soon as you register you can keep playing from that point.
