Ok, great game by the way... I just have a question...
How do I get the voice analyser to work? I'm trying to hack into the bank, but I can't seem to get the damn thing to work! It comes up on the screen then says "waiting for voice". Or some words to that effect...
Oh, P.S, I think I spotted a bug! When you delete a program that you are using (I binned Proxy Server 5.0!) it still remains on the screen until you have finished using it, and if you have not started to use it then yu can use it later whenever you want...
Edit: And what the hell is the "Neuromancer Rating"? Mine has managed to fluctuate between Neutral to Notorious, but I have no idea what it does...

I haven't actually gotten to try this, but I suspect you have to call the system administrator on his phone... You can find his phone number through the bank computer (it's listed publically) and add it to your links.

It's a moral meter - it shows if you've been making good or bad moral choices. Some employers will not want to hire you if you are too far on one side of "neutral".

Thanks.
And you're completely right - you have to ring the Administrator up and record his voice. Unfortunately the Uplink administrator's number is off-the-record, but I was able to complete the hacking into another bank. Alas, there was no "give money" button. Oh well...
Oh, but you can see into other people's accounts. Maybe I can use them :evil grin:
Edit: The conclusion of that experiment: I managed to hack into the bank. I then wrote down people's account numbers and passwords. I then entered these accounts, before taking out loans of money and transferring them all into my uplink account. After having gone through three of these, with a net total of 33700c I was caught, and my game ended. Maybe I should have done something about the logs:D.

You could hit "administrate account" and then "transfer money" I suppose. ;666
To get the voice analyzer to work, call up the company's public Access server (Available from InterNIC) and get the admin's phone number. Start voice analyzer then call them up, it will ring, they will pick up and it will record. Done.
To transfer money to yourself, bounce your connection to a bank, bypass anything necessary (Monitor and Proxy, usually) hack an account. Be very fast about this, banks have a very fast passive trace (tracing back your connection). Transfer money to your account. Using log deleter go to the bank statement and erase the transfer. Disconnect then go to InterNIC (or whatever the last bounce in your bounces was) and delete your logs, then connect to your bank and clear your statement of any record of the transfer. Then, you're done, and you have more than enough money.

Is there any way to keep track of passive traces? And does merely accessing someone's account (without disabling the proxy server) set off one? I've now been busted by a bank twice now, but I suppose it was because I didn't delete any thing at my end of the transfer...
Passive traces are untrackable, but if you used a good sized trail they should take a few hours. As long as you don't accidentally fast forward you'll be fine.
------------------ I am both worried and saddened by nationwide news of increasing rates of anxiety and depression.
Remember to bounce through the Uplink Test Machine or Internic first, so you can hack into their admin systems and break the log chain.
For banks, you also have to delete the 'statements', which are basicly more logs. You must delete the statements on the transmitting and recieving accounts.

Banks actually have a freakishly fast passive trace, and even with a big bounce list can get you in as little as a few minutes...

Actually, I'm a bit puzzled by this. Twice now I've successfully hacked into a bank and covered my trail only to be told that I've reached too high a rank for the demo :frown:. Does doing a bank raise your rank, because I was only a beginner...
Actually, it does. A bank hack raises your level.
Banks are notoriously hard to do, and almost unheard of in the world of Uplink. The few who manage to pull these hacks off are therefore quite well-respected in the hacker community, and your rating will go up very quickly.
