You would probably find it a lot easier, and equally effective, to put your journal in notes, books or plaques, which can be placed behind the start position so that they appear the moment you get into the level.
The real problem with adding, or changing screens is the actual physical size of the pict you are adding. When using ResCompare you have to make sure the memory is big enough to take all the picts you want to change. They tend to make the patch making so slow that you think that even your blindingly fast quicksilver mac has crashed - and I mean slow. Set it going and go out to see a movie or something equally time consuming. If you are lucky it will have finished when you get back. Then you've got to increase the memory of the patch to more than it's size or you can't apply it.
That's why I don't change the titles file, only the background and sprites.

Yes, I could do it with journals and such, but then I could not have any cool sketches like above. And I don't think it would give as good a sense of background, to many people would skip over that. Anyway, do you mean that creating the patch will take forever (I can wait) or other people using the patch will take forever? Also, I will save the image files at a rather low gif, maybe 4-8 colors, so hopefully the images will be small. After all the only colors I need are tans, white and blacks.
I am reposting the drawing on this page.
I have begun working on the Wall. Should it be an ice level or not? I am leaning towards yes, cause I need more ice levels and the song "Thin Ice" fits well. So actually, just cancel that question adn make it a statement. I have talked myself into it: The Wall will be an ice level. Thanks for your help deciding.

I think you might get away with it if you confine the colours to just a few. This one works fine but it's not as big as most of the title screens. If you confine your picts to line drawing and text gifs, you should be ok, but don't forget to increase the memory on the completed patch or it won't apply. (I had to double it with just this one picture.)

Sure ya' can; just pop the pic in something like GraphicConverter and you'll have a pic in 256 colours, albeit a tad more pixellated than the one you provide (which is quite nice!).

Danke!
I am half way up the Wall, a level which is really being built by hand, not the usual method I use. I am very pleased at this point, mayhaps I will post some screen shots. Actually, I just remembered that I really should figure out how to fix the background before posting screen shots.
My level info look like this:
48 x 256 PxBackR Res ID 337 PxMid Res ID 338 Layering Type 0
So basically I am using the Dig proportions and the mountain ice background which I don't believe was in the original. When I play hte game it splits up the graphic into three strips which run at different speeds. I think I have had this problem with other levels, but I don't remember how I fixed it. Thoughts?
Here's the problem I was mentioning earlier. I am pretty baffled here. Any ideas how to fix it?

gets out magic lamp
rubs lamp "Oh great and mighty Ben, can you help our (poor soul) Emperor Ent fix his problem?"
rubs lamp again "Oh great and mighty Ben, please appear and help us!"
rubs lamp one more time "Oh great and mighty Ben, overcome you difficult IP bans and help him!"
puts lamp away
Oh, well. It was worth a shot.

::cough, cough:: Any thoughts on the problem with the picture above? Maybe I'll make a new topic if no one sees this within a few days.

Did you use the dig and change the background? The dig has a three level split and I think the trouble is that you've used a split dimension to start with. When you make the level you need to make it a single dimension level. I've tried just about everything I can think of but still can't seem to make any changes after the level has been started. I've ruined several of my levels like this.

That's terrible, so there is no way to make it a single dimension level? It is way to late to start over. Dang! Dang! Dang! Any ideas what I could do? Mayhaps I will make a new background.

The background for Flash Freeze (277, 278) will work.

So, um, well thanks. That has saved me a world of trouble. Actual just a level. Hah! I'll be here all week folks.
The Wall is coming ever so slowly. I have yet to total fix the background and I am getting slightly unenthusiastic about the upper third of the level. Still I hope to buckle down soon and finish that, then move on to a new level. I am not sure if I will work on an ice level next, I am getting kind of sick of them. Ack well. Mumble. Grumble. Rumble Tumble.
