I reccommend that Avara be released with a few of the commonly played level sets (AA Collection, Not-AA, Geriatric Ward, ect.) to help alleviate the initial disgust/confusion of newbies who have just downloaded Avara and can't seem to play any multiplayer.

Yeah, I agree totally...
And why not put up some information about Avara anywhere, like instead of the PoG banner, have an Avara banner sometimes....
Avara is addictive, and is not out-dated in gameplay and 'community cozyness'!

I think that there might be some licensing issues if Ambrosia SW released other people's work without contacting them first. So, I would say that bundling Avara with commonly played levels is not going to happen. However, I put together a bundle of the most frequently played levels a while back and called it "Essential Levels". It does not include Not-AA and a few recent other levels, however it does include:

Fosfori, Geriatric Ward, Grecian Formula, Liver Spots, AA Collection, AA Deux, AA Tré, Avara Collection 1, Balledness, Over the Hill, PastaBravo, R.I.P., and Wrestling 4.0.

It can be found on the Addons Page as the most downloaded level (with more than twice as many downloads as anything else.) or it can be reached directly with:
(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/dl-redirect.pl/Essential_Levels.sit?path=avara/levels&file;=Essential_Levels.sit")http://www.ambrosias...tial_Levels.sit(/url)

Just point Newbies there.

I direct you to Taz!'s piece in the Cronicles: (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum24/HTML/000007.html")http://www.AmbrosiaS...TML/000007.html(/url)

Basically, Avara doesn't work under OS X and so it's viablitiy as a product will continue to decrease until something is done about that and more and more consumers switch from OS 9.x to OS X.x. Considering Avara's sales, that may never happen.

i think thats sillyness
ambrosia can say they are "honoring" the people by including their legendary levels along with the game. All levels have a "designer" thing on them anyway, it is merely distributing them.
And for ambrosias sake, if the newbies actually can get some multiplayer games going they probably aren gonna say "ok this game sucks" and delete it, like most of them do right now

Thanks for your opinion killme.

If newbies have downloaded Avara, they've been to the downloads page, and can see for themselves the vast amount of levels available for Avara. The manual describing how to work the game even directs them to avara.com, which is still redirected to this site.

Users who get it from a CD still get the information on how to find more levels.

I don't think newbies are leaving because they don't know how to get levels, rather the ones I've talked to leave because of the attitudes of those people who at this point, still play the game. Some of them are not very receptive to new players (and if anyone takes exception to that, it may not be directed at you.)

Several players have attitude problems - some have serious sociological problems. Some absolutely need better oversight by their parents.

There hasn't been a "where can I get levels" question here in quite a while. And, speaking for myself, I'd rather not have any of the gzr level sets included with Avara - but i must confess I have not asked Cowboy for his opinion.

No, I don't think including more level is the answer. If current players can be more welcoming to new players, show them the ropes, and direct them to the levels that are being played then there is no need to add bulk to the download. The key is always, as in the past, the Avara community - they have to act as a guide. Without that, Avara will linger for a few players, and then slowly fade away.

Taz!: On the optomistic point of view, people have been saying that avara would dwindle to nothing and die for a few years now... You may be right, it may die soon. But then again, you may be wrong. No one knows the fate of Avara, so we might as well stop guessing when it will die. People thought it would be dead 2 years after it came out. And if my memory servers, it's been played by several players on a constant basis for about 5 years now? There is realy no point in duiscusing when it will "die".

As for people with bad attitudes, yes. We could certainly do without those people coughMM & sphinxcough. But other than the names I didn't mention, the avara comunity is very nice towards n00b's, and are ussually willing to help.

When I say "Avara community", I do NOT mean avaraline. Practicaly everyone at avaraline is disturbed... None of them care about avara. Most of them don't even want avara files stored there. And anytime avara is even mentioned there, it's like cussing at a catholic. I think it shouldn't be called "avaraline", but "faggotline". That's my opinion anyway...

This isn't exactly related to the subject... But vadar is right about the everyone being nice to newbies. I used to tutor one. (and i belive that i still am)

I agree Taz. The only reason I got into Avara is because Krow and Geko helped me learn and there are usually some good servers you can get into to avoid certain people. I say theres a lot of people around who play for love of game instead of ego stuffin ...... 😄

Well Zeus and I are working on a new clan and we are helping newbies learn (we have about 5 of them in teh clan right now, and assigning each one to a veteran so they can learn how to play )
