Does anyone know of any good avara level editors besides the draw applications? Like something designed psecifially for Avara?

I don't think anyone has bothered making one, since it would be quite an undertaking. Besides, the current draw programs are more than sufficient for most level editing. Still, it would be nice to be able to do everything from one program.

Like something designed psecifially for Avara?(/quote) Claris Works does indeed have some limitations where level editing is concerned. For istance, I've often found situations where it would be useful to edit the height variables on several walls at once. But it works ok, and I don't think anyone cares enough.

Well, congradulate me. I downloaded Avara friday night, saturday I started useing ShareDraw to make maps while useing the claresworks guide, and by sunday night I had pretty much learned all the basic codeing/scrpiting exept for the messages, which I intend to learn this week. Now get this: I've never tried Avara level design in my life, so I basically learned it in two days without help, on my own. And while an Avara level design tool(kit) would make it easire for beginners and some intermediate, I wouldn't need one now.

Once the ClarisWorks file is done, how do you save it in a format readable by Avara? I can't figure that out! Also, how do you extract the PICT file map from an Avara level archive?

Open the clarisworks file, hit command a.Then copy in and paste it into a level files pict recource.Get its ID and set its number to 1 higher than the highst pict number. Then set its tag or whatever to somthing like firstlevel.pict .Then just go into the rescource on the right of the pict i don't know what its called i will find out later.THen you can tell what to do next by just looking at whats in the forms already there. Cheers
The resource is called LEDI. Assuming you have the templates that you need (which I believe can be copied out of the Avara application or most sets), then it will be self-explanatory as Tundra said. In case it isn't... Put the resource name of the SS... PICT in the "Path" field, and set "file" to false (this tells it that the level is found within the file and not in a file in the same folder named firstlevel.pict or whatever).
For the rest of the fields ... in "Tag" you should put four unique characters (this allows the player file to store record information). "Enables Required" should be set to 0, unless you want the level to be invisible until another level is completed (as with a series of solo missions -- you have to complete EnablesRqd number of missions that point to the given one in their "Enables" fields for the level to become visible). I always set "Reserved" to $00000000 -- I don't know what it does. By the way, you should be using ResEdit or some such program here; the file should be of type AVAL (avara level) and creator AVAR (avara).
Rebel... last I checked, a bug in Apple's system of copy-pasting PICTs makes setting wall heights individually (using rounded corners, I mean) somewhat risky. Use the wallHeight variable, which will change the heights of all walls placed after you set it, until you change it again (you can also make it point to other variables (e.g. kTwo) so that you can tweak things like the height of your level's second story in a single place at your level's header (or even in a TEXT resource) -- see "ballgame" for an example of how to do this).
What's the difference between a round rect and a normal rectangle?
