Hi all,
Got a BSP question here: I'm using the latest version of Meshwork (unregistered--still deciding, durn thing crashes if you breathe wrong :frown:), and noticed that when I make a mesh it has, say, 36 vertices; but when I export it to DXF format in preparation for the bspSplitter, I all of a sudden have, say, 162 vertices. It's a nice, round factor of 5-fold increase, too, which is too neat and tidy.
What's up with that? Where did all the other vertices come from? Is that just a side-effect of Meshwork, or just of DXF files?
Also, is there an application out there that allows you to take a BSP and go backwards to a DXF file?? This has got to have been asked before. It sure would save time to just export the light HECTOR model and play with it than having to recreate the &*#$%! thing from scratch (which I've done). Am I missing something obvious?
TIA, Havoc

Sorry Havoc- I don't have any clue for you.
Last BSP object I did was the rabbit in R.I.P. for the Matrix level. I used Strata for that, not Meshworks.

Have you checked if the items inside the Extras folder can help you? Inside the Extras folder>Mission Editing/Creating/AvaraModels folder is a bunch of DXF files, and a Strata HECTOR model. I must caution you - I may have gotten these from somewhere else - they may not be included with the regular Avara download.
If that's the case, I can email them to you, or post them into the add-on files section.

Thanks, Taz! You're right--there are DXF files included with the original Avara installation. I had completely forgotten that. I wonder if other level designers would be willing to post their dxf files for public consumption, too? Seems like that would help the community--I'll be happy to send mine in once I get them tweaked a bit more. You never know when someone else will be able to breathe some new life into a dxf you just can't make work.

Plastic Chicken released a collection of BSP objects earlier this year.

Really? He didn't bother to post any here...
Plastic Chicken posted BSPs, it is true, but not DXF files--hence my question regarding the existence of a program that could go from BSP to DXF. I suspect there isn't such a thing, since BSPs seem to be rather peculiar to Avara use. Perhaps some developers wouldn't appreciate this, wanting their model-work to remain unalterable, and, in a sense, proprietary.
This is one reason why I'd like to see DXF files posted, or included with levels when they are released. I have never seen this done, with the exception of the Avara distribution. Posting DXF files would, in my humble opinion, help Avara to grow, and would fit nicely with the object-oriented nature of its design. Maybe we could start a new trend....
