...does anyone know if there's a way to export image files to Avara, or create custom skins / graphics for the HECTORs?

Well, there is no real way to have skins, otherwise most levels owuld do so But there is a way to simulat skins... make a custom hull in a modeler (like Meshwork), and give certain spots certain colors, but it would mostlikely not look very good... but hey, go ahead any try, and I wish you luck
