my dilema involving MAG...

The ares section for MaG is being constructed right now. Greybeard (president of MAG) has requested that i use a double ladder system for the ares ladder on (url="http://"http://www.magleague.com")www.magleague.com(/url) . This means that besides having an individual continuing ladder, we should have a clan ladder as well. He says we need to have a mininimum of 3 clans. 1 of the clans will be TAG led by me. We need 2 other clans invented and 2 leaders (who are skilled, knowlegeable and experianced in ares as well as a good leader) skill is a major requirement...

So here's my dilema...I need 2 more clans made...

even if you hate clans and the whole idea of using them MAG is requiring them, so start posting if you have an idea for a clan or want to lead one!!

It's the button that the mods use to change your karma.

I say Avatara, Laguna, and I team up. We're all horrible, I think. At least those are the messages I've been getting.

I have my own interesting idea for an Ares gaming system...not at all clan-based, and very possibly more involved.

Oh? And what would this idea be?

It's a combination of "PBEM Diplomacy" and "Star Trek Command Dynaverse." If you know what either is, you should be able to tell what the idea is.

Ah, but see, I don't know what either is...

I'll second that idea. And maybe Sundered Angel can join us too, since he "claims" to be pathetic at playing Ares online. 😄

Alright, explaination:

--------

AresConquest

The concept of AresConquest is to provide a dynamic universe not limited to single net games, or clan skirmishes. In Conquest, each player serves as a "race," to conduct diplomacy, control fleets, and to wage general war upon their enemies.

At the start of the game, each player starts with a fleet around their homeworld, plus the control of a number of surrounding system hexes. Players turn in "moves" every 3-4 days to a judge. These instructions order fleets to move and specify ship-building info.

When these orders are executed, players may come into conflict with one another. If such a situation arises, the players are given the appropriate fleets involved, and pitched into a game of Ares over the internet. The galaxy map will be changed to reflect the outcome of the conflict, and play will continue.

Along the course of the game, some players will be eliminated as others grow to dominate the game. When one player controls half of the planets, they are considered to have won. Also, if a compact of players agrees to, and they control half of the planets, the game may be ended in a draw between them.

--------

There are essentially two "dimensions" to the game; one is a simple map that has turns to it, and then the real-time Player to Player

That's not that bad of an idea. However, i don't know what MaG will say to that. (They are making like half of the rules in this ladder) I suggest you email me with an extremely detailed explaination on how to play this version over MaG. Once i get this email i'll send it directly to greybeard at MaG, before he gets too far involved in the basic ares ladder. Another option would be still having the individual ladder, getting rid of the clan ladder somehow and replacing it with this new form of play. That way there'd be a wider variety of competition availible for everyone. I suggest anyone interested in designing any sort of ares tourniment first sign up for some of the other ladders on MaG (www.magleague.com and see how they are set up. Email me then at mr_ryno4@yahoo.com with your detailed explaination of how you want the ladder set up. I want everyone to be able to enjoy this ladder on MaG equally so i welcome any ideas.
PS: keep in mind that you do not have to submit scores or anything by email..MaG handles submissions live.

I have once before tried something like Pallas' idea. It was called the World Domination Simulation, and it was entirely email based and run by Nik (a person Cotten and I know), and it was very fun. Only problem was, it was a lot more complex and such, and so Nik was spending over and hour on it every day, and he just got too tired and stressed out by it. I think this version would be a very effective tournament based thing.
