3D Integration

A friend and I have been wanting to make a computer game now for some time and the first engine I suggested was Coldstone (while patiently waiting for the update). I want to do an RPG where the exploration and some action sequences are done in the standard style. But I also wanted to do some 3D action sequences, which would be made either with Forge or Blender (if I can figure out how to work either). I was just wondering if there was any way to integrate the 3D sequences done in Forge or Blender into the rest of the game made in Coldstone. I was thinking there might be a way to get CS to run a script to start up the action sequence from the Finder. Any more elegant solutions would be better appreciated, though.

Do you mean as a quicktime movie. Cause if so, yes it is quite easy to insert quicktime movies using a dialog event. I have been using it extensively, and it works great. If you mean opening up a real-time 3d sequence, then the answer is no.

You can't add real time 3D into CS games, you can add QT movies or render backgrounds and use them with CS animations etc

In other words, have each 3D sequence as a separate program. At the spot in the game where the sequence would take place, have CS run a script that would cause the 3D sequence applicaton open up over the CS game. Then when, when the sequence is done, a script in that program would quit it an return you to the apropriate place in the CS game (wheather you win or lose the sequence. Or, if the CS game could be divided up into different programs, and a script could be used to take you from one program to another once you are done with each.

I did not think you could use scripts with ColdStone?

You can't. You can record your 3D session with snaps and save as a QT movie, then use that in CS.

Can't use AppleScripts? Jeez... oh well. I'll have to figure out how to make the action sequences work out in 2D then. Thanks.

Sorry...

But if you work on it, in ColdStone you can do cool things with animation and mutiple NPC mixed togather. It is a chalenge but well worth it.

Also like it has been said, you can use quicktime movies in CS. You could even make a screen shot of the map background and do animation over that in another program. That way when the movie activated it would look like the game is still going on, and not a movie playing...

I do not know if it is possible to launch an Applescript. I do know, however that you can launch a file using the launch url function in Coldstone. If you use the launch url function you can use a file:/// then type in the path to the file. for example file:///Users/grahamvh/Desktop/spells.cwk will open up Appleworks and have it open Spells.cwk. It works with any other file. You have given me a few ideas on how to launch a AppleScript, however, I will need the help of a web developer to do so. I'll open up a new topic with my ideas and a request for help from a web developer.
