After working for a long period of time and using this fix repeatedly, I believe that I have discovered a fix that works for the Generate Map pictures bug in OS X. Follow these steps exactly.
Step 1: Open your game's folder and change the name of your map folder to maps (lowercase m).
Step 2: Open Coldstone and tell it to Generate map pictures. If it fails to do so go on to step 3, if it works ignore the rest of the steps.
Step 3: Close Coldstone and Create a folder outside of your game's folder names Maps (uppercase M). Then transfer all of your maps from your game's maps folder to this folder.
Step 4: Delete the empty maps folder in your game's folder. Place the Folder names Maps in your game folder.
Step 5: Open Coldstone and tell it to generate map pictures. If it works, be happy that it works. If it doesn't work let me know.
I understand that this is a very odd and unusual way of fixing a bug. However, it seems to work for me, and a few others that have tested it for me.
Please note this is a quick fix; you may need to repeat this process if you begin receiving the error message when generating map pictures.

Diseased folder, eh? The bug is being fixed I suppose, so why bother?
