Some time ago, someone placed a folder called "Indoor Floors" onto the addon page. I need to know who did, if possible, and where he got the carpet images. The carpet images are terrific, but I need to know for sure that they're legal to use in my game. Thanks!

Well, I tried them in my game and they did not work... So I had to create entire sets, wich is in final better...

Yes, I simply saved them as pct files.

I did a search before I posted the thread, and OgreBob did another folder called Indoor Builder. But there's no indication at all who placed the Indoor Floors.
Bodadem made them. Mystery solved!
Bodadem was banned from these boards a while back, and I don't have his email address. I'm pretty sure they would be legal to use in your game. Also, when I tried to change to that picture directory, Coldstone crashed (on both OS X and Classic). I haven't gotten that problem resovled yet.
(I had more to say on this subject, but I'm involved in a war on Just Chat and can't talk for long. They should be legal to use, though.)

If memory serves me correctly, there was a long discussion about a year ago concerning the use of things (graphics, sounds, etc.) created by one who is not an adult and therefore unable to enter into a legal contract. Bodadem is not an adult, and therefore is not able to give valid authorization for the use of his graphics.
I'm sorry, LifeKnight, but you, too, are not an adult and therefore not in a position to give advice on the legality of using such graphics.

Minors can copyright work, testify in court, and many other things. Though they can not enter into most legal contracts, if he says they are ok to use and is lying, the blame falls to him (just keep a record of his promise/permission ).

Minors cannot copyright work, at least not a registered copyright. Anything a minor does, his/her parents are liable, not him. And if I took his word for it, then I'd be liable, as I am accountable for my own commercial game. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise. One of the things I've noticed about some (not all) youngsters is their insistence that they have the right to have or take whatever they want. And that's a middle-aged person's statement -- or observation. We older people keep having to write about legalities on this board, due to this tendency.
I'm looking for nice carpet/rugs. He had some Persian rugs. I have enough graphics now (that I've made) to begin to make interiors.

Anyway. As far as I know anyone at any age can hold copyright on their materials. Asking the copyright holder (the person that made them) if you can use them is possible at any age AFAIK. It would seem stupid that someone can hold a copyright but not give permission to others to use whatever it is they have.
I'm sure bob will let you use them but if you want to email him then go ahead.

I think he got slapped to -10 for spamming the Uplink board and #ev3. If he registered a new account, I haven't seen it yet.
But on the subject of copyright of addons, isn't any resource/graphics/sound freely uploaded to the addons page okay to use in your game? Well, if you were going to sell the game, it would be a different story. I'll take another look at the Read-Me.

The whole point is that Debra does plan to sell her game. As such, everything must be done in accordance with the laws rather than the "I thinks" presented by young persons who have not studied law. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse when faced with a suit for copyright infringement.
As a side note, do we really know whether or not Bodadem drew the rugs totally on his own, or were they, perhaps, from some other source? It really doesn't matter in this case because Debra will have to find another carpetmonger.

I don't get this. So young people CANNOT hold copyright on their work but no-one can use it because it would be against the law? That is what it sounds like you are saying.
And how do you define a minor. Are you not a minor when you are 18 or 16. When you are 16 you can leave school and get a job and lots of other stuff. When you are 18 you are legally an adult.
