I have recently installed 8.1 into my and computer and, of course, Coldstone.
Everytime I try to launch it the same BOMB message comes up: "Code Fragment Could Not Be Prepared" I then have to restart.
What can I do to fix this problem???
Some other message boards have given me one of two answers:
1: Get CarbonLib (Which I am)
2: Get some extension called Code Fragment Manager
What is the problem and how can I fix it.
One more quick question... I thought I read that you couldn't get registered copies anymore. Is there any "things that are turned off until you register" gimmicks with Coldstone?
------------------ Yes, I am The Same Bobber205 as you have seen elsewhere!
I think the only restriction in the demo version is that you can only have 40 events. There may be some others. Hopefully Coldstone and PoG will be back on sale soon, it depends on how fast ambrosia can get the Panther bug fixed.
If you are using the OS 9 version of Coldstone (the one called "Coldstone" not "Coldstone (OSX)") then you should not need carbon lib as it is not a carbon app. Try deleting the Coldstone Preferences file (in the system folder). If that doesn't work then try re-installing Coldstone and if that does not help then I'm afraid I cant help you any more

Thanks for the advice.
If 40 events enough to make a good game? Since I don't know exactly what an event it, what kinda things use one of the events up?
Also can you write text files that hold personal user data; stuff like that?
Also can you make something such as the player must have a certain item to get into a village or cave or area.
One More thing, if this make a difference I do not know...
I downloaded the app on my mom's computer, unzipped it and put it on a zip disk and transferred it to my computer. I then tried to run it and the Bomb came up. Next I updated my system to 8.1 and unzipped the file from the zip disk and tried to run it. Sure enough it the bomb reappeared.
I will try it again once I get home from my Dad's school with the carbonlib for 8.1 (Version 1.0.4) and I will try again.
Once more little thing (again): You said if you're running the ColdStone OS 9 not the OS X I shouldn't need CarbonLib. On the website it says you need 8.1 or above. Is that false?

Hi bobber205. Welcome to the boards. Most role-playing games (RPGs) would have more than 40 events to help shape the story. But a good game can be built within that limitation. CHa0s recently did so with his Connect Four Lite. An "event" is a list of actions for the game engine to do at a particular spot in the game.

I'm not sure what data you want to record, but I think the answer is "Yes."

This is exactly what an event does: Player goes to edge of swimming pool. Event conditional asks, "Does player have purple bathing suit?" If answer is "No," then player is blocked from entering pool. If answer is "Yes," then access tiles to swimming pool area are cleared and player can enter pool.

No, that is true. Coldstone will run on OS 8.1.

Again, thanks for your help. I have tried everything I know of. THe .sit file (is that what you guys originally had??) contained a ColdStone Demo <i>folder</i>!
IS there a <i>installer</i> that you get or what.
I have not purchased it (from what I hear it now impossible). Is it possible to find a installer. I have limited access to computer so a link would be greatly appreciated. I sure hope somebody can help me out with this: Can somebody list what folers and .data files are in their coldstone folder. (except for the pictures and custom events, stuff like that). That would help me to know if I was missing anything.

The demo and the real version are almost identical;you must enter a licence code in the regester application in your coldstone folder to unlock the event constraint and other constraints. The only difference (other than event constraints and item contraints) are that when you buy coldstone It comes with a cd that contains more game art and sounds.
Currenly yes Coldstone is not available for sale but I believe that It will be available again. Carm is working on fixing all of the bugs I'm sure that once he is finished Ambrosia will put it back on the market.
