Maya PLE 5.0 is out and FREE!

Why? Would they ever know about it? If you made a small graphic and took a screenshot and got rid of the watermark, would the ones who made the app see that? They would never know! And everyone lived happily ever after... Or did they?

Well, anyway. That would not be illegal, would it? Maybe it would, but they would not see it!

Yes, actually, it is illegal. The license for Maya PLE, as I quoted above, states it's only for non commercial use. And since you must legally agree to the EULA when you install Maya (well, I think you do. If you don't then I'd be incredibly, amazingly surprised) they can take all sorts of legal action if you violate the EULA by selling games with such graphics.

As to who would know... you've just announced your intentions on a public board for posterity... and even if you edit your post, it's still here in mine. Fear. 🙂

Maya PLE has been available for quite some time now...

Mr. Miyagi says:
Graphic Program only as good as Graphic Artist

Mr. Peoples says:
Grab Blender, or any other 3D package available on Versiontracker(Wings, etc), learn 3D, don't look toward it (Maya, Lightwave, etc) because it's used by the pros, no sense in wasting all that money when Blender or Wings, etc. is just as capable in the right hands...

there is no need to go for a program like Maya unless you are serious about making money. The cheaper 3D packages are just as capable eg. Strata, Amapi, Cinema 4D (just guessing that it is fairly cheap). They all have advantages and disadvantages. Strata is lacking on Modeling Tools but makes up for it in it's ease of use and high quality rendering, Amapi is good for modeling and supports tonnes of formats etc.
If you buy one of these cheaper 3D packages then you should not expect something as powerful as Maya. You can however combine them with some of the Free 3D packages to get rid of theses weaknesses. For example many people use Wings with Strata 3D. They do the Modeling in Wings and all the Animation, Textures, Rendering etc in Strata.
