Back with a Vengeance!

Hey y'all,

Yup, its me, I'm back. And, I'm mad. very mad:
I made a graphic in Photosop 7 and used an air brush on some of the edges, so it's kinda blurred, but, of course (as i suspected :frown: ) CS made the blurred area solid grey (the color i used) instead of transparent. Yes, I read the transparency topic from a week or two ago, and it doesn't help. Also note that the entire image is NOT supposed to be transparent, just part of it. I'd be grateful to anyone with any insight on this.

On a different note, I noticed a certain topic as I came to post and I'd like to say congrats to RD and Debra on their "modness". ๐Ÿ˜„ I guess I'll be seeing you iLocking around the board now (You need to find the image Jericon used for his "Magic Locking Stick" ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

For those of you that are wondering, I am making a game this time, not a plugin, so I may need some help (details on game to be posted soon).

Glad to see you back, but I do hope it is with renewed enthusiasm rather than vengeance. Thanks for the congrats, however I don't see myself locking too many threads (unless they're four years old, and come up with inane responses.)

On the art problem - would it work if you used GraphicConverter and punched pixel holes in the edge of the graphic to let the background color show through? This would be done by making some pixels pure white. Is the image an animation or is it static?

If you make a .psd file and have the (almost) transparent edge in another layer, then save it as a .png file, what happens? I have not tried but I think the edge would be (almost) transparent then. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'll give it a try. FYI, the game will be medieval and I'm working on it at school actually:
I have founded a new club for the purpose (not that odd for freshmen, I'm one of three or four) and I have some help, in edition to a really good animation program (thank you school!). However, this static (Yes, if it helps, it's static) image problem is bugging me... Anyone know when, or should I say if an update to CS is coming out? 1.0.1 needs some serious work on how the graphics work... (please don't make this into one of those "scream at beenox" threads, I'm just asking, not seriously complaining...).

Anyway, anyone with a solution please do tell.

Well, I have 1.02, but all that it fixes is the compile bug where it still says you're unregistered. You can get it by e-mailing our good buddy Dave.

RD suggests perforating the edges, a faster way than sitting there with a pencil 'dot by dotting', is to
(1) use layers if you didn't, for your fuzzy edges.
(2)take the airbrush set it to dissolve, and in a separate layer, set the pressure to less than 7%, and use white.
(3) or if you have something that is consistently transparent, use appleworks, pour a white on black pattern fill,
go into photoshop, paste it as a new layer, use the eyedroplet to select the black color as your foreground, use the select-->'color range' menu item, select the black, delete it. you now have a transparent mesh to work with, generating these meshes ahead of time, saves time.

That would be for a pict image, that will load faster etc.

(url="http://"http://www.ellrx.com/articles/vault/pngetc.pdf")png(/url) is another matter. You'd likely just want to select the canvas, copy merged, then paste the contents into an alpha layer...this will give you a greyscale representation of your image. use the same color range technique but adjust the tolerance to pick up some of the dark areas that represent colors lower in brightness. Use the fill bucket with about a 65% rate to keep the soft edges from becoming hard edges.

color swapping and layering will save you time.

As for photoshop7 exporting pngs automatically based on transparency/'preserve transparency'...it just might, look through the help, i still have 5 (which incidentally exports pngs with darker colors...).

Thanks eL' (Am I abbreviating that correctly? ๐Ÿ˜› ), helpful as always ๐Ÿ˜‰ I'll give it a try when I get in time (sometime in the next week). I wish CS just knew how PS transparency worked...

For anyone who wishes to know:

I tried exporting as a PNG in Photoshop 7 and it worked like a charm (except for one little bit in the top right corner ๐Ÿ˜• ). PNGs exported from PS 7 should preserve all transparencies and work correctly as well (not tested on windowz).

Thanks again eL'!!!

EDIT: Why isn't ":" a smiley or ":|"?

preserve all transparencies...
i know that transparencies translate when talking about levels etc...but are you saying that it exports
these as the alpha channel when saved as pngลผลผลผลผลผลผ

When I previously exported under PS 5/6, the transparent or semi transparent parts were either solid or not there. Under PS 7, it actually fades at the edges with various levels of transparency, almost perfect. This was my original problem.
