In my line of work, that makes sense. Unless you happen to like the smell of exhaust, gasoline, and oil.

How exactly are you going to sell it? You mention that you will sell your game through your site, but at the site you list all kinds of stuff that will come with your game? Are you puting the game to cd? If so, what does the cd label/box art look like, of if you aren't that far ahead, what do you have it planing to look like. Looks somewhat different from the action/rpg hybrid I'm used to, so it's interesting. -Zerowarrior
Actually you will have to liscence the Coldstone system or pay royalties to Ambrosia if you are releasing a commercial game because Ambrosia owns the Coldstone software and Coldstone is at the heart of your game. I read this somewhere in the documentation and user agreement. I do not know how much this would cost, but perhaps somebody from the Coldstone web board (Mr. Durham??) would be able to clear this up.
If I have time (sometime in the next two weeks) if there are still questions about this i will email Ambrosia for clarification.

We went through this already. He's taking the game distribution on by himself, so he pays no royalties, unless, of course, he signed a contract with someone to distribute his game.

Yes, I've read that. We even got Mr. Dunham to come and clear things up. I don't recall him saying how he was going to distribute the game, but if he offers a demo, or even the whole thing, with the option to play later, he's clear of any dealings with ASW. If he signs a contract with someone to distribute his game, ASW will need to get involved.
Debra, I think, a friend of mine would like your game very much. She is really involved in the peace movement that started over the past year. She won't play games that are heavy on the killing. Rather she prefers problem solving and accomplishing things in an RPG.

Hmm... Dampeoples I found the post from Mr. Durham. You are right. Sorry for the confusion. Perhaps they should make this aspect clearer in the Licensing Agreement.

Yeah, it's a little sketchy sounding, I suppose a 'good' thing is that not many CGE games have been completed. Once a few (more) get done, we can get some better insight as to what to expect, sales-wise, selling experience, tech-support, etc.
(QUOTE)Originally posted by Efeion: (B)Yes 5 months away is not a finished game but it is a game that will be finished. And yes som of the pictures are from the CD and some are my own. THE STORY plot I have never seen before! Plese tell me the OTHER game that uses this plot so I can find it.
Pedrith. I might make a demo in the future but not right now because I am still figureing out how to let beople buy it off my site. I don't need to pay a fee to AmbrosiaSW because I my self am selling it and not some other distrubuter like Freeverse or AmbrosiaSW.
I have already contacted Ambrosia about this, being the first thing I asked them about, and this is what I was told, and t's almost identical to your situation: You will need to work something out with Ambrosia to purchase a Commerical license from them, either flat fee or royality fee. For the flat fee you can expect to drop about three grand (yes, $3,000), but you can sell as many as you want. If you cannot afford that, or simply need more help with distribution of your game, the royality fee is the way of choice. Simply by a signed agreement between Ambrosia and your game development (company), Ambrosia will get a cut off of every game you sell. I would look into this first to see if your budget permits this, or simply contact Ambrosia and let them give you a ballpark figure. I hope this helps you not get hung up by any unknown legalities.

Yes, despite what Mr. Durham has written, I expect that this will happen for me, too. Once my game's up, I'll simply contact Ambrosia and see what happens.
(edit) Personally, I like Paypal. And thanks, Codewizard!

Try (url="http://"http://www.kagi.com")www.kagi.com(/url), or go the paypal route.
You guys are reading to much into this! The game is still 5 months away and it won't be until the last month that I realy get into selling the game. Now in reply to all the posts. I might do a box for online if cost allows it but it is more for my the people my friends are helping me sell to localy. Yes I know my spelling is not perfict and I realy don't mind it that much because I am doing this game for personal reasons not for profit! Finally, I might not even sell the game online because of all the trouble. If I do eather I will have a free download and a way to registrator later or you will just buy the game using PayPal.
------------------ Magnum gloriam Efeionae est! The forest is calling, how will you answer?
Hey, Efeion, I feel that you are getting a little bit upset about all this, but I think I'm speaking for all of the replies you're getting that we're just trying to help you out before you get in way over your head and have to do something you totally do not want to do. Read in too much into it before you do it, trust me. I've had it happen before. Nobody wants to either put a lot of work into something just to see his or her idea not make it, or is so good that it gets stolen. I personally would not wnat that to happen, and I've seen it happen before. Alway anticipate your next move, and know that the move after that is coming, even though you don't see it or need it. I know I'm here to help.
