Hey everybody! Long time no see!
I decided to temporarily discard Shadows of the Past due to technical difficulties. I will pick it up sometime in the future. In the mean time, I've been writing a story (seperated into parts) in my English journal. An idea struck me that it might make a good game, so I decided to get your opinions on it. ^^
The plot of the story goes like this:
The story starts out with a man having a dream. Of course, you don't find out it's a dream until later...That's beside the point. Anyway, it's a repeating dream; it just keeps happening again and again. The guy is running from something, but we have no idea what. It's getting closer, closing in. A gun is fired and the man falls down. He struggles to his feet and grabs his now bloody leg, limping forward. Then, he comes to a cliff. It's a good height, with water swirling far below. Whoever, or whatever, is chasing him is right behind him. The man can only do one thing; jump. He springs off his good leg. The last sound in the dream is a splash.
The man wakes up and meets a strange being (after getting acquainted with the searing pain in his head and leg). He was a humanoid, but was translucent blue, an almost watery substance, with equally translucent yellow hair. The creature asks for his name, but the man doesn't remember it (or anything else for that matter). The man asks where he is, and the thing answers with (something like, I can't remember exactly), "We prefer not to tell surface dwellers the name of this place." Surface dweller? The man questions that name, getting the response, "That's because that's what you are. If you look outside, you'll see you're underwater." After that he falls asleep.
In the next part, he finds out that the creature and his pal are out to get him, so when they aren't in the room, the surface dweller jumps out of the bed. He finds a closet and hides in it. When they walk in something happens that surprises him (I forget what) and he stumbles backwards. The surface dweller looks under him and sees some kind of trap door. After realizing what it was, he searches a shelf above him for something to open it with. He comes across a pole and it seems like the surface dweller can feel this raw power eminating off of it. Of course, he had no time to ponder over such things, and used it to yank the trap door open. He drops down and finds a tunnel and starts limping as fast as he could go. It was only a matter of minutes before the creature's pal jumped in after him.
After that he finds out the pole has special powers and some more events happen. I don't want to spoil it so I'm not telling. ^^ The game will have a selection at the beginning for an introduction, which will explain about the creature and the pole. Once you choose to start the game it starts you off in the tunnel. From there it goes through the story and all that stuff.
Well, what do ya think? I'd write more but my mom's bugging me to get changed, and I'll forget my train of thought if I leave my iBook. ^^

Have you been reading Lovecraft? That's a pretty good story. I like the idea of starting out knowing so little, especially since it sounds like your life depends on finding out as much as you can. Very cool.

Thanks.
Lovecraft? Hmm...Never heard of it...I'll keep it in mind.
Sounds great. Suggestion: Have the intro as a cinematic at the point where you would normally choose a character (new game event or something). Also, this kind of game seems like the type that could use (yes this a detail) a run and a walk mode (PoG takes forever due to its lack of this). Anyway, sounds good so far. Go ahead and get started if you have time and report back to us.
