There was a topic on transparent night pictures a picture about 400x400 tiles was avalable but the link is no longer working I need a transparent picture of dark purple with 50% and 25% transparency that is 200x200 does anyone have this. If not can some one tell me why Photo Shop 6 will not allow me to make a transparent picture of this size but will let me make a smaller one of 10x10. This is a 2000X2000 pixel picture.
------------------ Magnum gloriam Efeionae est! The forest is calling, how will you answer?
I can make it for you if you need it - which is it though 200x200 pixels or 2000x2000 pixels? I was going to make both and email them you, but there's no email.
------------------ Here's my site! There is art, music, movies, and games are on there way! (url="http://"http://www.sinthesisent.com")http://www.sinthesisent.com(/url)
I dont give out my email sorry.
It is 200x200 tiles which is 2000x2000 pixels if you have a web page you could post it on that would be great. Thanks if you can thanks if you can't.
Well, I'm trying to make them for you, but photoshop is giving me hell - it never did before, but it's doing it now... I'll try to get it to work - then post it for you to download.
Sorry for the double post, but this is a totally different message.
I think i got it to work. They are 15 megs, but where compressed to a mere 4k <now that's what I call compression - if they work let me know in order to submit them to the add on section.
Also, please let me know when you've downloaded them in order to delete them from my server - thanks! Thank you.
I will reply on how they worked.
Just like with my tries the pictures will not show up in the game. Can this be fixed??????
Can any one do a 2000x2000 dark purple transparent at 50% and 25%??????
If some one can please say so, do so, or tell how to do it.
i don't knwo what to do then because i made about 26 images for my game that I had to save as tgas which means that I'll have to do them all over again - stupid photoshop!
How are you trying to use these in the game? Are you layering them into a map? Placing them on-the-fly with stamp control actions? Using them in character sprites? Or how?

If you are using photoshop , here is how to do it:
1. make a new image and set size to whatever and set background to transparent 2. set foreground colour to black 3. fill the image with the foreground color 4. go to window --> layers 5. set opacity to the desired value, somewhere around 90 % works best for night effects 6. save as png file. Pct files wont work, at least not on my computer.
I will try this.
I tried this, but nothing. I thought that the only format that coldstone accepted alpha channles from was tga?
This really sucks - the alpha channels in my tga's where working not os long ago and now nothing!
Is there any other app - shareware maybe - that makes alphas and save in tga?

I'm not sure where you heard this - Coldstone only accepts pict, jpg, png, and bmp files, at least according to the last page of the Coldstone manual.
Basic rule of thumb with Coldstone: Use png for images with translucency or alpha masking, use pict for everything else.
klatu, have you launched the game with the transparent images? They dont work in the editor ( they display totaly black), you will have to save the map and launch the game. Also, you schould put the transparent image on top of everything else in a new layer, to create a night effect. good luck !
yeah - I tried in in the editor and in the game. If they show up they use white as transparent, but no alpha channel matte is shown and if it doesn't work it comesout totally transparent (invisible) I tried various tgas that I had made and nothing.
i just found out that coldstone doesnt load these images if they are to big. I made one image of 32003200 (for the boberus city map) pixels and it didn't show up in the editor. I made another one 16001600 and added it four times and it worked :
You may download the png file here : (url="http://"http://www.geocities.com/jonameijers/Night.png")http://www.geocities...ijers/Night.png(/url)
maybe this is just me, but when i want an image with transparency, i can't just alter the opacity in photoshop and save it as a .png ... I have to manually alter the Alpha channel. Here's what i do: - create your image, it must be an opaque image, with no added transparency (if you do, these colours will just end up as if they have a white background behind them, ie. pale) - Add an alpha channel, nice n easy! - Next you have to adapt the alpha channel in order to tell coldstone which parts to make transparent... Think of it as another layer. In the alpha channel, black will make your image totally invisible, white makes it opaque and the various shades of grey inbetween determine how translucent specific part of the image will be... am i making sense?
This will not affect the image untill you run the game, but in-game it works beautifully. One technique i use often is to just paste an inverted copy of the image into the alpha channel, this way you get an image with dark opaque areas and light, transluscent areas, it looks nice You can often animate things purely by altering the alpha channel (especialy when creating explosions, flashes etc) and you can also use this method to makea pure opaque white show up in the game. Hope this helps!

ps: make sure the "discard alpha channels" box is unchecked when you save!

I dont know about version 6, but in version7 of photoshop you can just adjust the opacity of any layer in the layer window.
Jona, You're on version 7 and your tga's work? How the heck? I know there was a bug in saving tga's so I downloaded the update, but I still get nothing - this sucks!
