I was just wondering, is there a way to have the character only see in a small radius around them? I mean a way to make the character only see like an inch (our size, not the game's) in front of them, and the rest is black?

Well one idea I'm toying with is taking the character animation and instead of havind a huge white space surrounding them, you could have a small white circle and then a huge black area, say 640 by 480 (or whateversize you want or need). This should limit your field of vision down to just a small area. You would have to have an event to change to the new character animation but it should work. I have yet to test it.

Try making a stamp that follows the player. Make the stamp black, with a transparent spot in the middle. Voila! Insta-crypt.

You can use the same method to make all kinds of modifications to the player. One idea I've been toying with is a way to allow the player's map graphic to be a combination of moving stamps together in synchronisation, instead of a different single animation for each change in the combination. e.g: Weapon, sheild, armor, helmet, and boots stamps each individuallly. When player equips different type of weapon, the weapon graphic alone changes, instead of the whole player icon.
There are some theoretical inconsistencies, however. But overall it is basically possible.
