coldstone competition...

There's an isometric engine that came out that has some nifty features - i tried the demo and saw realtime light changes, i think it adds shadows to your models automatically and some other stuff. The engine runs pretty smooth though I don't care much for the way you control the character. I didn't play it for long because I was just curious, but maybe some of you guys will want to check it out (i.e. the ones who are not happy with coldstone and it's limitations).

I myself will still use Coldstone, but maybe this competition will make the guys at Beenox go, "Hey, maybe it's time for that 2.0 with some cool new features for the kiddies!"

The price is kind of ridiculous for the commercial version ($599 - I believe) and $49 for teh consumer copy.

I really like Coldstone, dispite some of it's annoying limitations. However, this might be a good alternative for some of you. 🙂

I toyed around with that in 99

you need director to input new graphics and build new chars/A.I, although it comes with thousands of preFab art files
if has a forced interface, you have to use an onscreen "sack" to hold your inventory. Director isn't cheap.

Its really just a game that you can edit on the fly ('Bane of Brodix') in fact typing in the words EDIT switches you to editing mode.

The isometric view can easily be obscurred, which is the anthesis of isometric view.
------------
It does...because it is basically an extension of Director tech, 'Lean' alone plugin, have an advanced feature set, that coupled with the fact that Ando SodenBlick the developer doesn't have a conflict of interests when it comes to development.

However if you ever do decide you need your own art be prepared to shell out the cash
Appleworks = free, bundled with every mac, dramically more stable since 6.2.4
MacroMedia Director 8.5 Shockwave Studio $1199, that's if you plan on making a single cent from your games, but in that case you'll need to shell out the 500 to buy the commercial edition

In general not worth the money..or time to download a fun toy to say the least.

If you really want the freedom and stability of a completely custom game the only true solution is
1 go buy a PC they have millions of tools, and watch your cool game drown in the competition and suffer the scorching inadequencies of Windows or the "crypticity" of Linux.

Or Apple Script Studio for X

and last but not least
program it yourself, i do have some aid for the adventurous
(url="http://"http://www.staronesw.com/metal/Metal_Game_Tut.sit")http://www.staronesw...al_Game_Tut.sit(/url) Game engine, built with
(url="http://"http://www.iit.edu/~sarimar/GDS/")http://www.iit.edu/~sarimar/GDS/(/url) METAL (classic/X compat)
with black and white collision system, you'll also need Resedit you can get it from (url="http://"http://www.resexcellence.com/")http://www.resexcellence.com/(/url)

or

TNTbasic (url="http://"http://www.tntbasic.com")http://www.tntbasic.com(/url) $25, handles resources internally, your best bet, however there isn't a great example like there is for METAL.

Any direction you choose i dare you to find an easier solution than CGE...you can't
and i dare you to prove me wrong....

Good point. I really didn't know that much about it - just thought I should share it. 🙂

I still have not seen anything as easy to work with as Coldstone, all these other tools seem to require a hefty or limiting liscense fee or learning a new language. I still struggle with English.

After a few hours of trying this out, I would say that it is more limited than coldstone. I'll take another glance at it, but I hate the way it handles a lot of things, and it seems more like a game than a game maker.

That's because it is.
