Mailing List Petition

no, Andrew said he would make a List run from the Ambrosia server but then the server switch, EV Nova, and MWT came up and no new news but the Coldstone update should be released soon and that might generate some more action on the list.

as for the yahoo CGE mailing list it works but noone seems to send anything to it. there's twelve or so members. but its pretty quiet.

In hopes of stiring up some interest in the Yahoo group I have posted a CGE Tips culled from this webboard, Dee's Chat, private emails, tea leafs and a few other undisclosed sources. it can be found here:

yes you'll have to be a yahoo member. yes i will upload it to the Ambrosia site if there is enough interest.

if anyone has any corrections or addtions email me at

Last four posters, never ever EVER dig up a four-month old topic.

I'm sorry. I wasn't aware that this would be a problem. I'll take full responsibility, since the other three people only responded when it was no longer a four month old topic.

Those are announcement lists from Beenox. What we've been asking for is a discussion list. I did join the Beenox list though. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.

It's not that bad, it's just that dead topics are generally best left buried, as the topic would still be alive if anyone had any interest in the subject anymore. Try to avoid doing it as a rule.

For those asking to be added to the mailing list, to my knowledge that list still has yet to be created(either that or it has been created but no one mentioned it). Though, in Ambrosia's defense, I remember that they had decided that the mailing list would be created, and very shortly thereafter they switched servers and had innumerable problems with that changeover(they lost email functions for a bit, webboard registration, etc). When they finally got that fixed Nova was released which lambasted them with product registrations. Then the Tokyo show cropped up which took a few Ambrosia staff out of the country...

So pretty much the CGE mailing list got shelved and probably forgotten about. Hmm, maybe I'll drop an e-mail out and see if we can still get 'er going...

I am also sorry. I didn't know it was 4 months old until you told me. :frown:

Hi everybody. I'm back from the dead (sort of... full resurrection to commence in November). I have an account on an actual professional webhost, and one of the features is access to a mailman server for discussion lists. No Ads! If Andrew doesn't want to set one up on his server, I'll set one up on mine; I'm paying for the service, so I may as well use it.

Excellent! I've sent e-mail to Andrew and Straytoaster has restarted his asking of Andrew as well, so we'll let you know what becomes of it.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling again. I'm looking forward to the mailing list.

Given that Andrew seems to be either dead, comatose, or on vacation, I thought I'd go ahead and get this going. straytoaster, if you're still using your @mac.com address, I'll go ahead and make you the moderator of the list.

The list's page will be at lists.postsomnia.com, but it looks like it will take a day or two for the subdomain to get propagated.

Once it is setup, you can also subscribe by emailing coldstone-dev-request@lists.postsomnia.com (gah, that is waaay too long...) with 'subscribe' in the subject or body.

This is what I propose the list's discussion be about:

Quote

coldstone-dev is a mailing-list format discussion about developing games with the Coldstone Game Engine distributed by Ambrosia Sofware.

This is not intended as a replacement for Ambrosia's Coldstone web board, but rather a forum dedicated soley to development topics. Hopefully we will get some good discussions about advanced techniques going.

Since the focus of this list is using the program, I request that you only sign up for the list if you have registered Coldstone. This is not the place to ask "Can CGE do X before I buy it?"; that's what the webboards are for.

Other discussion topics might encompass creation of graphics, animation, sound effects, music, and other resources.
