I'm not sure what your price range is, but I use reason - which is about $300, but it's way worth it. For $300 bucks you get as many samplers (real ones of any quality don't go below $2000)as your CPU can handle, as many synths (a little lower price range as a sampler)as your CPU can handle, and then there is the sounds that it comes with which are really good and other devices and effects all realtime!
