Dee's post about an upcoming patch that will hopefully be out soon reminded me of a couple of annoying crashes that Coldstone is plagued with that I mentioned a while back but never got any info about, and just wanted to remention them in the hopes they have either been addressed, or can be addressed in the upcoming patch.
First my system is a PowerPC 9600/233 running 432MB ram and OS 8.6.
All of these crashes I believe are related, and I believe it is due to the game engine looking for a physical picture when the picture data is stored in a data file instead of in a picture format.
Crash #1: If you go into "Change Map Cell" and select "change cell picture to:" and then go into the picture data and select a picture that was included in the game(ie, go into forest base pictures, or crypt objects, etc), after you select the picture and click "OK" from the "change map cell" screen the game will crash(error message listed below).
Crash #2: In the map editor when you are using the map drawing tool, if you open up the pictures window(to select different tiles to place on the map) and you open up one of the pre-loaded picture files(ie, forest base pictures, or crypt objects) and then double click on one of the tile icons, the came will crash(error message same as above and listed below).
The error message I get from these crashes is:
Error code: An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shutdown.
The error message pops up in a window and when I click ok the application shuts down. I can restart and continue just fine, sans any changes before the last save.
It would be very very nice to get this crashing fixed. A nice pop-up window saying, "Bad game builder, don't do that!" and then putting you back to where you were before comitting this horrific deed.
Anyhow I hope this was noted when I sent it in a while ago and is being worked on or has been fixed in the patch.
Thanks guys

Thought I'd pass on another fun little way to make the program crash-- If you hit command-Q to quit your game (and go back to the editor interface) while the game is in the middle of loading a new map... down it goes! This is particularly nasty in full screen mode as you can't force quite as well. This is under OS 9... it might not be an issue in X (where command-tab would probably pop me back to the finder...)
This is a REALLY minor thing, but I thought it'd make sense to add it to this thread.

Cool shoes!
(I had it happen once or twice myself but blamed my working habits; I have a nasty tendancy to manipulate files before the windows have finished opening).
Does this mean we also get a bug fix on the....?

A while back, I emailed David Dunham about a major(ly annoying) bug in CGE. In case it somehow didn't get to you, Dee, I'll post my email here:
**I've been using Coldstone and I've run into a bit of trouble. Whenever I try to make a location, item, or NPC template, CGE gives me and error message:
Location template: An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down.
Item template: Error openning the current item file for output.
NPC template: An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down. **

I have also had the same
'An exception of class NilObjectException was not handled. The application must shut down'
error that shuts down CGE when I try and create a map.
I haven't see reference to this crash --- Mac OS X 10.1.3 and quit Coldstone ... happens everytime - I have dump info in case anyone wants it. Using Carbon version of Coldstone.
