Since I haven't seen any official word to whether or not the task list should be able to be added to in a POG plug-in, I have since thought of a way to work around it and thought I'd share. Hopefully the task list problem is a bug and not just an inaccessible feature and my work-around will not be necessary. But in the event that it is...
Create an object to be used as a quest mission marker. Its description should match what you had intended for the quest log to read. When you give the player the quest call up the item wizard and give the player the item. He should now be able to look at it in his inventory and read the outline of the quest. When he completes the quest use a conditional to remove the item if he still has it(so nothing screws up in case he dropped it already, and also to keep the player's clutter down so they don't accumulate 50 quest markers).
And to avoid same name problems and plug-in conflicts, I'd suggest a naming scheme starting with your plugin name. ie, "UTVmission1item" Ugly yes, but the player never sees it and there probably won't be many, if any, items created of this name to conflict.
Hope that helps.

This is ridiculous. I appreciate your trying to help, Starkiller, but we should not have to create these kinds of hacks to do the most mundane of things. I'm very exasperated with the fact that the developers won't tell us that either certain things can be done or they can't; instead, they ignore our questions.

Stark, not Starkiller...
And yes, I agree fully about your sentiments. Since POG was created to display the wonders of Coldstone, AND they hyped up the ability to create plug-ins for POG with Coldstone, I really really wish someone from on high would simply tell us what we will not be allowed to alter in our plug-ins.
Currently there are just a lot of things that do not work and we just don't know if they are bugs, things that we are doing wrong, or things that POG has restricted.
Very very frustrating.
My post though was just a way for programmers to continue working on their plug-ins that have quests in them while they await an answer. Hopefully though, those come sooner rather than later...

Sorry, I was in a hurry.
I believe this should be possible to do, since Trinity manages to do it -- I'll see if Dee can offer any insight.

Does Trinity actually add any quests to the quest book? I've only played as a ranger, but I can't think of any quests that the ranger class adds that were not in the normal game. Perhaps the swordsman or the conjuror do?
I don't know whether or not Trinity actually adds quests (perhaps the goblin hunting thing?) but it does add classes with stat changes, another thing that Trinity has managed to do that we can't.
BTW: Thank you for replying, Andrew.
