Well, I was playing a guy on gameranger today, and I was Cantharan at first, and then he beat me so I became Salrillians. When I lost my heavy destroyer in the first game, I changed control to a gunship. I then proceeded to beat his Salrillian Carrier down. One more shot and I would have gotten it. Unfortunately, his cruisers and gunships got me. I always thought that Cantharan Gunships sucked. I was wrong. In the game where we were both Salrillian, I built a carrier and then only gunships. I lost the Heavy Destroyer when getting the Bunker (I know. I'm getting rusty.). I took control of a gunship, because the carrier wasn't completed yet. I then built up my fleet and he built up his. When our fleets met, his heavy destroyer and my gunship ended up being near each other. Guess which ship killed which. My gunship slaughtered his HVD. That plasma weapon is awesome. My fleet slaughtered his, and he ran for it in a carrier. Although he built another carrier and then a mix of gunships and cruisers, and he slaughtered my fleet in the next engagement. Although I built five transports, cloaked them, and sent them to his planet. He then chased my fleet of gunships around the map, and I kept him occupied until my transports made it in.
Why is this so important? 'Cause it was my first time flying both Cantharan and Salrillian gunships (as my ship), and I never thought they were so good.
Anyway, if you want to, we can have a debate here about whether or not Salrillian and Cantharan gunships really are good, or which gunship is the best, or something like that.
I vote for the Salrillian Gunship as the best in the game.

i too think gunships are teh best ships in the game(because of there low cost and asewom firepower), and i think the ishman gunship is better(faster shooting rate for both primary and secdondray weps then sals or caths) and not to mentoin they look awseom, and the noise tehy make rules. but second best is teh sals cuase of that rocket and its pretty fast and menverable, then there are teh caths, they also rule becuase of that mian gun and there super good shielding, i personly think if there was a striat head to head battle that you jsut go for each otehr striat and no runing then the caths would win cuase of tehre amin gun and sheilding, but as i said the ishamns are the best.(oh thought i dont think ishman gunship is the best ship in the whole gmae, its the enchanced cruiser if you ask me)

If you could teach them how to play intelligently, Gaitori gunships would be best (which is why I'm glad they aren't).

I REALLY think Salrillian gunships are the best. I'd like to see me fly an Ishiman gunship and try to take out a salrillian HVD while three Sal gunships are trying to kill me. I can do it with a Salrillian gunship. Man, it felt so good when I did that...
See, I was playing Eminem. He didn't just rush me, he rushed me with an HVD and a gunship AFTER I'd fought with the Bunker... Basically, I was pissed, so I decided to go down with style. I took out his HVD, got my gunship extremely beat up, and got the heck out of there. Then we had a long battle over my planet. We started with a few gunships dogfighting, and we kept building more. He won, though, 'cause he started with about 3 extra gunships. Laguna, I now understand your frustrations with ECA. Eminem wheedled and whined to get every advantage possible... :mad:
I don't want to go into the details. I'm giving everybody on the boards friendly advice: don't play with people from ECA. It isn't very fun, unless you beat the crap out of them (which is exactly what I did ).

Well, Gunships are designed to take out big ships, to focus on a single target. I play Audemedon vs. Audemedon all the time. I build 3 gunships and the rest cruisers. I've never lost a battle (Ask Avatara about my long-range Barrier Beam) with that strategy.
Gunships by themselves, or even in groups tend to suck. Throw in a few cruisers to escort them and they're unstoppable. The Cantharan Gunship's antimatter blast does a whopping 500 damage! The most powerfull weapon in the game! Nothing short of a carrier can withstand more than 2 shots of it!

Salrilian Gunships are pretty good. They can cloak, have an awesome LRPK beam cannon, and have that VERY deadly plasma ball launcher.
I can't say the same for Cantharan gunships. They are extremely slow, have no stealth field, and that anti-matter reactor type II doesn't have that good reload. However, I have noticed that Cantharan Gunships can destroy Ishiman cruisers very well.
However, my favorite gunship would probably be the Audemedon Gunship, or the Human Gunship, both are very good.

As of yesterday, Slug has lost a gaome of audemedon vs audemedon... to me.
I do agree that the cantharan gunships reload is slow, but you'd be surprised. Its about as rapid as a fusion pulse reactor...
I think that human gunships are probably second best to the salrillian one.
And I don't have any foolproof ideas to stop hordes of Salrillian gunships. I'll just say that they work better if you build a carrier to every four to six gunships.
Anyway, that's more of what I think about gunships...

That was the oly time I have ever lost to that gunship strategy. Good game, Mag (besides, I more than made up for my losses during that game of Spaze Warz )
But you see, Eminem was whining, etc. He told me that he didn't like gaitori gunships, so we couldn't build them. I'll give you three guesses as to what the first ship off his planet was... Believe me, Pyro, it was not fun. I you act like Eminem does, I hope I never meet you on GR. Or anybody else in ECA, for that matter...
Bah. Grolk light cruisers aren't my specialty, since I don't tend to play multiplayer much. Although that was your win by about half a second... And I'd like to see how it would turn out with both of us in something fast and maneuverable...

i beat eminem yesterday it was funny. he played me in space warz. And im not like eminem at all. If u dont like ppl like that, heres a tip
dont listen to them, if the tell you not to build gunships, do it anyways. they cant really stop u. All they can do is quit, and then they lose. Ares was built so every ship equalizes another. (either that or they were just bored(high )).
U now why I died in that HVD cause I was controling and commanding my other ships anyway I won that game with a "cheep" tactic.
