I cant seem to get the transparency in .png files to work anywhere except spell and ranged weapons animations and interface windows, and the files dont work at all for charactor sprites. Im using Graphic Converter for creation, though I tried using several apparently Photoshop created files from the mideval template, with no sucess. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Assuming it's not a Coldstone problem, then try this.
Make the graphic in Photoshop, and make sure it has all the transparency right. Save it as a TIFF. The open Preview, and load your TIFF into it. Export it as a PNG from there. It worked for my web graphics where nothing else seemed to.

Well, I would be very surprised if that is a Coldstone problem. Have you tried to use some of the spell PNGs with characters to see if that work? Be sure that you have 1 layer with your graphic and one more channel (#4) for your 256-gray mask.

Actually, I dont even have Photoshop, and it does seem to work for spells and range weapon animations, though the transparency flashes, as though it takes a second for it to load the alpha channel. Like I said, I have tried using Photoshop created PNGs from the Mideval template, with exactally the same effect, so I seriously dont think its the files.
I posted this on another thread but got no reply. so I try it again ------------------------------------------------------------------- Does the alpha channel really work?
Unfortunately it does not work fo me. I created transparent pngs (8-, 24-, 32-bit) under Fireworks and/or Photoshop with alpha transparency but none of them will be displayed correctly in coldstone. Does the coldstone graphic-engine only support a "1-bit transparency"? Or is it a problem with my version/configuration. I´m useing a PB 400 under MacOSX 10.1.2 and coldstone 1.0.
There is a screenshot for illustration under: (url="http://"http://homepage.mac.com/hrisc/alpha/colstone_screen.gif")http://homepage.mac....tone_screen.gif(/url)
Can anybody help?

As stated in the manual, alpha channels are only supported by the engine part of Coldstone, not the editor. If you put that in a map and run your game, it should appear correctly.
Thanks, Dee! It works!!!
