Billion of Bilious Blue Blistering Barnacles!
That's exactly what I wanted this engine for. Well, more like Chrono Trigger, I guess, but the desire's moot in any case, seeing as the engine only supports Diablo-esque interfaces. So... what now? There's nothing saying I can't make an RPG par excellance with Coldstone, but I have no idea how it'll turn out since the engine lacks the hoped for malleability.
Unless, of course, the FAQ tells not the full story... (ihopeihopeihopeihope...)
In any case, go, ignore my dissidence and create... Create I say! Get to it, slaves!! whipcrack

With a lot of cleverness, you might be able to pull it off. A seperate map for battles, which has an event that activates after each action that pauses everything (for turns). For multiple characters, you could have it change the player's appearance and location each turn to overlay a number of AI-less NPCs that are automatically in the battle map. It would be tricky though. If someone does it, they should post instructions.

I think I saw Dee mention in another post that a turn based game would indeed be possible. It would be complicated but could be done. However, Dee was too tired to type up the lengthy instructions for it. Maybe in the coming weeks and months a way will be found and instructions made. Keep the faith.

I think you'll be able to do a lot that the Coldstone engine wasn't intended for -- much like Escape Velocity plug-in makers came up with a lot of interesting ideas.

As soon as I found out that Coldstone existed, I was expecting it to be a kind of wet dream to all of the no-name developers that made really really REALLY crappy Final Fantasy ripoffs with everything from GameMaker to Hypercard to REALBasic.
Unfortunately, it seems as if that won't work.
I do remember reading in the publicity for Coldstone somewhere that an FF-style game is possible... I only wish the manual went over the really complicated stuff more. I wouldn't mind learning some kind of programming language to do that...
Isn't this what Cythera was supposed to be, only simpler? -Swivel Master (url="http://"http://www.mp3.com/swivelmaster/")http://www.mp3.com/swivelmaster/(/url)

Ah, but do you have the time and inclination to learn a programming language? The manual wouldn't be able to cover every ability and trick -- that'll come with a bit of time using Coldstone.
Cythera was an actual RPG -- it was run by an engine, Delver, that was supposed to bring future games, but Coldstone is just basically...better.
By the way, what do you use to make the music you have on mp3.com? I listened to part of inject, and liked it. I liked the first part more tho...it seemed dark, but then it got sort of high and...clowny, for lack of a better word. ------------------ quitcherbellyachin. --- New Fortress of Die Nacht released!
