i saw somewhere a while ago that there was a beta version of coldstone available for download to the public. is this true?

Nope, you'll be hard pressed to find a copy of the old public beta. It's not worth it anyway, comparing the old beta to the new Beta is like comparing Mechanisto with Maya.

Oh, I think the final version will be released in the early part of this year.
But a public beta hasn't been available for ages.

ya, but sumthin is better than nothin...
Not if it doesn't "play nice" with the ultimate Coldstone release- then all your work will be wasted.
You're better off using this time prior to release to plan your storyline, your characters, your world... I've been doing a LOT of sketching in meetings...
