In this month's Up Close and Personal, we're going to take a visit to the Quebec headquarters of Beenox.
Beenox are the developers behind Ambrosia Software's latest release, (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/games/pog/")Pillars of Garendall(/url). Pillars of Garendall is a huge fantasy role playing game, where you are cast as the sole savior of the land of Garendall. Beenox created Pillars of Garendall using (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/news/upcoming/")the Coldstone game engine(/url), soon to be released by Ambrosia Software, Inc. Coldstone is a role playing game construction kit that offers unprecedented power and ease of use, allowing you to create professional, stand-alone games that are limited only by your imagination.

What happened to the progress log? I hope this means what I think it means.

No sooner than December. (my "cynical pessimistic honest" opinion)

How can the release be no sooner then December if the PC version is at worst only a few weeks from completion(not quite so much word as to mac the version, but...)?
Ok, I just realized, the FAQs say that there will not be a PC version of the CS editor, just PC-compatable games from CS. But if that's so, what about (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/news/upcoming/images/cs_windows.jpg")this(/url) screenshot of CS editor running under windoze.
So, what's the actual deal with CS and wondoze?
The FAQ is old. It was put up before they were willing to tell us what POG even stood for. (It's true!) Coldstone will make games on and for "windoze"
But why would you want to use windows if you could do it on a mac.
BTW:

forgive my ignorance. please tell me where you found this information...

Wait, he has a point there, I remember reading that too. I read that all they needed to work on was the quicktime support on windoze and that it wouldn't take too long. Honestly, why must you try to put our hopes down? That hurts.
the follow is from the Beenox news email dated 9/5/01
"Hi Coldstone fans!
Coldstone news from Beenox:
Coldstone status after P.o.G. release
Now that Pillars of Garendall, the first Coldstone game ever, has been released, I can go back to Coldstone. If PoG is ready, then at least the MacOS8/9/X compiler should be ready too right? So the only things left should be the Win32 compiler and the editor itself (with its wizards, graphic libraries, etc.)?
Exactly.
There were two things missing from the win32 compiler: Quicktime movie support and the ASW registration system. Quicktime movies are now working perfectly well. Technically, as soon as we receive the reg libs, we are all set. Vince is now working on some other minor issues.
On my side, I'm packaging and testing what will be a new candidate for the testers. You won't believe it but the full package of Coldstone is quite heavy and it takes a couple of days only to put everything together. Oh, and did I mention that the full CD version of Coldstone will contain additional non-medieval artwork?"
---------------------------------------- In the last paragraph Dee mentions "I'm packaging and testing what will be a new candidate for the testers." he didnt even say final candidate.
so dont hold your breath
on the other hand the very release of POG points toward the emanant release of CGE.

Simple, Dee said that the only thing the Windoze version of CS still needs is basically just the ASW registration program(s). Thus, as soon as they get it, it'll be ready to go, correct? And he also very strongly implied that the Macintosh editor is complete (ie, the release of PoG).

Um, I wouldn't. Someone else might, but it confuses me that there'd be a screenshot of CS working under Windoze if there is no editor coming out for windoze.

I'm not putting your hopes down, I'm just trying to warn you. Expect it in a week, and you face disappointment. Expect it in several months and well...
I know that you all have those excessively negative people in your lives, the ones that say almost exactly what I just said, and sometimes you just want to run them through with your favorite blue ink pen... I'm just stating what I believe to be true, not unlike the catholic church. However, unlike the catholic church, I am not forcing my beliefs upon you.. but that's a different matter entirely. Forgive me if I offended your optimism, I shall return to that place where it always rains and practice my guilt trip techniques, leaving you to the happy world of expected release.

Where did that come from? Please refrain, in future context from bringing in controversial topics completely off-subject in mindless ranting. I'd appreciate it. Such views should have unique posts in Just Chat. Lol, happy posting ;).

Man, I never imagined that this would turn into one of these topics. Lorenoth is right in saying we probably shouldn't get our hopes too high. I'm not expecting it to be released in the next week. I'm hoping (repeat hoping ) that it will be released within the next month. (give or take a few weeks) But hey, who isn't?
(Lorenoth: What's with the Catholic stuff?)
it is just an example, forgive me if I have offended anyone.
