Hmm.... my personal game design... but can it be done?

Since I'm not a beta tester, or not in any authority I cannot say whether some of the more complex things will be allowed... BUT-
I can say this, it sounds like you took that one guy's advice and really planned things out. Well thought out, and it seems to be really creative, which is something we lack on this web board.

That had to take forever to write. However, I'm too tired to read it all right now. Some of it, though, I know you can do.

That would really suck if you accadentally hit the "reset" button instead of thew submit button.
I'm too tired to read all of it, seeing as it is by far the longest post I have ever seen anywhere. It may even set a new board recored for longest single post.
I would have posted maybe 20 times to get all that in. Wow!

Ah, yes, sorry about the ungodly length of it all. ^^* I had to put it all, though... that's the abridged version.
And Mouse, I typed it in a text file first, then copy-pasted. I'm not that dumb.

At least some of us here aren't that dumb. I would naver have thought to put it in a text file, so it would really suck if you had typed all that up without a backup, don't you think? Oh, well. It doesn't matter anyways.

I know not your age, occupation, experience or programming skills but your post indicates that you have a very organized mind and a well thought out plan.

I humbly submit that you not attempt to accomplish you game with an existing 'program', but to invest some time learning a programming language and write/create your own...

RealBasic probably won't cut the details.

Cocoa might, if you haven't already been indoctrinated into the more 'traditional' languages.

(clarification inserted in edit mode... Cocoa is an application framework and Objective C is the language.)

Good Luck... Your post leads me to believe that you can do it!

SkipMeier, I have been interested in learning some programming language, not necessarily for the games at hand, as Coldstone or some other engine is much easier and more time-effective, but do you know of any good resources or tutorials?

APPLE COMPUTER provides free tools, programming API's and Applicaton Frameworks on the following website:

(url="http://"http://developer.apple.com/macosx/gettingstarted/")http://developer.app...gettingstarted/(/url)

The tutorials are advanced but there are also links to many other sites.

The APPLE gamesite at:

(url="http://"http://developer.apple.com/games/")http://developer.apple.com/games/(/url)

also has much useful info.

Metrowerks website has tutorials there...

If you are a student (if not, then take a programming course at a nearby Community College) then you qualify for steep discounts on most packages from 3rd parties (Metrowerks, Real, etc.) By taking a course at a CC you would also qualify for the discounts.

Visit bookstores or Amazon.com for intro texts.

Hmmm... I made a text-based arkanoid-type game in C, once. I took me 3 months. Make a 3D game engine? Hah! I have enough programming experience to use something like Coldstone to it's fullest potential.... I'd, say, PAY someone to make one for me.... but then, of course, I'm a university student, dammit, I have loans to pay back eventually. And I like eating.

I'm hip with the food/clothing/shelter scene.... though I had to do without a bit to buy my new G4.... damn being a student. Beenox should have a Coldstone Giveaway contest when they release Coldstone so all us starving students can have a chance to have it without having to eat crackers and peanut butter for a month. And they should include some nice modelling programs too.Like Maya or Lightwave or something similarly nice. (I have an illegal copy of 3D Max 3.1, but it's outdated, and I don't like having to use pirated software) And they should make it a contest of skills. Because I never win when it's luck based. :frown:

chill: well, that's the very abridged version, I have more written down on paper and up here points to head, so if anyone decided to steal it, they'd have a very hard time in court, if it came to it.
I should have some 3D character renders up on here, eventually, if my computer decides not to commit hurikuri whilst rendering.....(I have not purchased 3D software for my G4 as of yet...)
As for ports of the game, it will of course have ports to PC, if possible. I have a PC, and it's all I had before I purchased my G4. I still use it, and it's what I use for graphics processing at the moment. (Do you realize how hard it is to find pirated software for Macs?)

Two points Shari,

  1. Coldstone is not a 3-D game engine. It has 2-D Graphics and Animation.

  2. You are a student therefore you can get steeeeep discounts on almost all commercial content creation packages. There is no need to consider the 'P..' stuff. You certainly can't afford to purchase every package at once, but then you certainly don't have the time to learn more than one at a time either.

There are many 2-D graphics engines available for your use in a game. The feature set that you have presented us has more to do with relational database management and decision trees than with graphics. The graphic images to be displayed on the screen are (in simplest terms) just data base 'objects' that are selected for 'display' by the decision tree and the players actions. The power, complexity, playability, story and replayability of a game all lie 'under' the graphics.

None of that here please, this board is above! (above board -- haha, a joke )

Ladies and Gentlemen, as you know we have something special for you at
Birdland this evening. A recording for Blue Note Records...

Let's take it back to the concrete streets, original beats and real live MC's...

Skip: Quite aware of the nature of the engine. However, seeing as 3D based graphics take decidely less work to make them look "professional", I will be using a 3D graphic base. I do have the skills needed to make handrawn graphics.... but 3D looks much nicer. 😄

Necro: Heh, sorry about that. ^^;
